4.0 out of 5 starsIt's impossible to remove all the zest from the back of the grater. I'm not talking about washing it

My daughter wanted a grater. I purchased this one based on a great review from Cook's Country. I already own a Microplane. This morning I tested both of them using lemon rind. The Microplane won. When you grate citrus zest, a good deal of it sticks to the underside. It is easily swept out using a pastry brush, as long as there is a way for it to exit the grater. The Microplane is open at the bottom end of the grater so the zest sweeps right out. The Oxo Good Grips Zester and Grater lacks this minor but apparently important feature. It is closed at both ends. You can bang the Oxo Grater until the cows come home, but the zest stays on the grater. Use your finger, a brush, or whatever on the Microplane and the zest is yours to use.
The first photo shows the amt. grated from each tool, and the brush used to sweep off the zest from the back of each grater. The second photo shows the amt. left on the Microplane after brushing & cleaning with a finger tip. The third photo shows the same treatment on the Oxo. I do believe I will keep my Microplane and my daughter will get the Oxo. Oxo makes *fabulous* products and I became believer when I purchased an Oxo potato peeler years and years ago. This product must have been made in mind of those folks who don't scrape the batter out of their mixing bowls with a rubber spatula. :-)
