This is really good coffee

Coffee is one of the most elusive flavors known to man. What one person likes, another hates. Personally, I found this coffee to be wonderfully aromatic and filled with flavor. I rarely make recommendations, but if someone asked me to pick a coffee for them, this would be my choice. Every morning my wife, who has NO IDEA of how to make coffee, arises and relishes this stuff. She always thanks me for making her coffee in the morning. Her sister loves to come to our house just so I will bring her a cuppa Joe in the morning. It's always this coffee and and I've never had a complaint. It's good stuff. 'Nuff said.

This is DARK roast not medium

The decaf beans are labeled as "medium/light" roast but this is clearly a DARK roast. I would call this a French roast. Not even close to "medium". The beans are brittle and OILY on the outside and all the flavor is cooked out of them. They taste "ok" for a dark roast but the roast level is completely misrepresented.

I've bought this before and this batch was not the same. I contacted the San Francisco Bay Coffee company and they told me to beware of not buying directly from them. This batch didn't have any Hazelnut flavor at all and seemed greasy. I got some from the manufacturer directly and it was what I was wanting and used to - delicious. Buying direct from them now on. It was cheaper too. Lesson learned!

I’m a retired Pastry and Culinary Chef. My pallet is particular. I’ve tried a lot of hazelnut coffees. Most are junk. I do like Caribou Coffees vanilla hazelnut the best. But it’s too expensive to buy online most of the time, so I reverted to buying this when the price is right. It’s decent. And for me, decent says a lot.

Yes, the grounds are a bit oily. Some people hate this. I don’t. I love it. It makes a fairly decent cream on top. It’s a medium roast. In other words, it doesn’t taste burnt.

A bit darker than medium roast, but great for the price

I worked roasting coffee for 6 years, so I have high standards without being a snob. This is review is for the Hawaiian blend. It’s labeled as medium roast, but is more on the dark side; I would consider it dark roast, but maybe compared to their darker roasts this is medium. Also I travel to Hawaii often, and would not consider this as good as actual Hawaiian beans.

The beans had a bit of an oily sheen to them, which proves they’re fairly fresh (older, poorly stored beans will be dry in appearance). Beans also had a very nice aroma. Flavor is more like a dark roast, closer to a typical French roast with a deeper bite on the finish, than the smooth nuttiness of a more typical medium roast. I do personally prefer a lighter/medium roast, so I’m probably a bit more critical about this point.

I removed one star for the roast being darker than what I would consider medium. Overall a decent bean, and nice cup of coffee. The most impressive part is the value; it is an awesome bag of coffee for the price. I would absolutely recommend to others, and will be purchasing from them again.

We love the San Francisco Bay coffees we used to get from the local store here. Their Decaf isn’t available locally and it’s nice that Amazon carries it. However, the last bag of Decaf Gourmet Blend beans carry a hint of staleness and taste feels like it’s a little off from the first day we received it. Just ordered another 2lb bag of their decaf and hope it is fresher than the last one.

Update March 2018: we just received our second bag of this coffee, which appears to be fresher than the first. The taste is very smooth, especially since we drink our coffee black. The first bag’s staleness may have been a case of a poor seal on that bag so we will buy this again. A+.

Love this coffee!!! Can’t have caffeine due to anxiety and a nerve pain issue. I’m 37 and recently discovered caffeine was causing a great deal of my health issues so being a die hard coffee addict I refuse to give it up but I went decaf. Caffeine really wasn’t the addiction for me it was the habit and flavor. I live this coffee tastes great and is a good value

I think we got a bad batch

First off, I need to make it clear that for well over two years I’ve religiously drank SF Bay K-Cup pods and LOVE them. I bought a 2lb bag of the breakfast blend and a bag of hazelnut and frankly, I think both are bad. Bad batches or bad beans. Holly cow. Smelling the beans in either bag is awful. The taste in my mouth once brewed taste rotten. I’ve never had such awful tasting coffee in my life!! We tried brewing it one way yesterday and another today to no avail. I finally smelled each bag and it’s clear they’re just bad. I don’t know if this is normal for beans from SF Bay, I hope not based on the amazing reviews but these are undrinkable.

Amazing Decaf!

This coffee is GREAT. It’s as good as any caffeinated coffee I’ve had, and better than most, I’d say. I brewed some up in a French press and it was the perfect cup of coffee. I saved the leftover to make iced coffee the next day and it’s really good as well.

Being rather caffeine sensitive, I recently decided to switch off of caffeine, but I love coffee and just can’t give it up. However, most decaf that I’ve tried just isn’t as nearly as good as non-decaf. This seems to be true for all of the decaf you can get off the shelf at the grocery store. I did some research and decided to order some GOOD decaf. I decided to get water/Swiss water processed, which uses less chemicals and retains the taste better, and I prefer medium roast. I’m a bit of a snob, so I wanted it to taste good. I didn’t want a huge bag because I want it to stay fresh. I settled on this coffee because it met all of that criteria at a good price.

I am very impressed with this coffee! Being caffeine sensitive, I feel like I am now free to drink great-tasting gourmet coffee any time of day without worrying about insomnia, amping up my nerves, getting the jitters, coffee sweats, or experiencing a caffeine crash. Highly recommended!

Flavor is a little burnt testing but they don't use chemicals to decaffinate

First off the price was pretty good for 2lbs of while coffee beans. The Amazon description says that they use a water method to decaffinate the beans but nowhere in the bag does it state that info. I called customer service and they assured me that they did use a water method and are in the process of a new bag for the coffee that will state this info. They also told me that the process they use can be found on their website. I appreciate that info and that they describe how they perform the process.

As for the flavor of the coffee I would describe it as burnt tasting. The beans are also pretty dry. There are much better Swiss water method decaf coffees out there but they are also more expensive. So if you put a lot of creamer or something like that you will be fine with this.
