How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

(review for UR55 ... there are a few others in this grouping)

TL;DR: Great, affordable choice for extended monitor for MacBook Air (Retina)

I upgraded from an HP 25xw (1080p) and this monitor — even at the same resolution — is soooo much more clear/vibrant. I have moved from an older MacBook Air to a newer one with a (M2) Retina screen and I was really starting to tell the difference with the old screen looking "fuzzy". This new UR55 is indistinguishable from my new Retina screen when used as an extended monitor. It took about 20m to get the settings dialed in, but now it's a match from screen-to-screen. The monitor is routed through a hub, fwiw, (Monitor : HDMI > hub > USB-C : MacBook)

1.0 out of 5 starsOnly product that has ever made me want to pay more to have less of its features
Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2024
Host PC: MBP M3 Pro 12 core cpu, 18 core gpu, 18 gb ram (the problem was obviously not my laptop)

Panel: The display itself is solid. All matte screens will dim and degrade image quality. You are likely a mac user looking for a display that scales macos right. This one will, but image quality won't be the same as your macbook.

UI: Everything about the UI, and I MEAN EVERYTHING, is simply put the worst designed piece of tech I have ever owned. It took north of an hour to SET UP a monitor. That is insanity. Brightness control only through remote is annoying, but the nonsensical nature of the settings, how some are seemingly randomly disabled if a select mode is enabled or disabled is confounding and goodluck with samsung support, when I contacted them they guided me to factory reset.... through a series of menus that literally did not exist. As to say they told me to enter (x) menu and (x) was not a menu that existed. A monitor so needlessly complex for no gain. I would pay to remove every inch of "Smart" from this panel.

Design: It's fine. Nothing special.

When I tried to give the samsung connected apps a try to give the monitor a fair shake. They advertised calibration with iphones, tried everything and it would not work with my iphone 15 plus. When contacting samsung, they said "connect it to your smart phone not your iphone." They didn't understand that the iphone is a smart phone. That's the kind of thrilling support experience you're in store for and like me will probably end up filing for a return within 24 hours.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheap 4k monitor, dual input with pbp, cheap...
Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2023

A cheap monitor that's 32", 4k, and has two inputs for picture by picture (pbp) capability. I use it for work and home; i do a split screen between a laptop and desktop and the 32" 4k gives me enough real estate for apps.
It's really cheaply made though, you need to be aware of that. The frame around the screen was not fully seated and a small section was cracked.
There was a small defect in the middle of the screen, like a small bubble on the plastic overlay, but no dead pixels.
I had to turn off the ambient lighting detection feature and crank up the brightness to get it to looks good.
Again, this is a good review - the screen was cheap and fit my needs, therefore all the stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great budget display; Needs a wall mount/desk arm
Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2024
Size: 28-InchStyle: UR55Set: IPS - DP + HDMIVerified Purchase
For $200, Samsung’s LU28R55 really delivers. This budget friendly 4K display is ideal for work and casual gaming. Topping out at a 60 hertz refresh rate, gamers expecting a higher refresh rate will notice a difference in visuals. For work and personal computing, the display offers a ton of screen real estate and looks great at HiDPI resolutions.

The picture-in-picture feature pairs well with a PC/Mac setup where a console (like a Nintendo Switch) can be played in the PIP window and the computer used for the remaining space (example pictured: a QuickTime Player movie, iMessage, Safari, PIP window featuring Plants Vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville on Nintendo Switch).

Main complaint: The housings for this display feel weak however and while it helps the construction feel lighter in weight, does not feel sturdy. The provided stand is not adjustable so adding a mounting arm/wall mount is advised.

The display setup pictured features meross Smart LED Strip Lights for bias lighting effects and the display is mounted on a MOUNTUP Single Monitor Desk Mount. adding these on with the saving you get from picking this display will give a more polished product in the long run.

Samsung UR55 Series 4K is great, I bought one and loved it so much I bought another for dual screens. The quality is amazing. I did buy a different stands as the shape was awkward for my desk. You can really notice the 4K and the eye saver mode is a nice touch as someone who is on a computer all day. Highly recommend!

Feels really cheap for a HIGH END monitor
UI is TERRIBLE. It has some cool functionality but super annoying to have to deal with. The apps are ok some resolution on some apps like fireplace burning are just awful

Pros. If you connect to MacBook somehow graphics look slightly better than windows.
Affordable
Camera is decent
Can connect 2 OS and swap between both (most monitors can do this )
Sound was ok I guess not that bad but not that good
Looks nice 5k
Can remove camera if you want
Remote charges with type c

Cons: user interface
Cheap
Build is flimsy feeling
Annoying when you want to swap between OS because you don’t know what “pc” means if there’s 2 of them and don’t know which will take you to mac
Remote is a hassle to have to use
Blacks aren’t that black for my panel

5.0 out of 5 stars Samsung Quality Every Time

I needed a 4k UHD monitor for my NVR system. This monitor is perfect at 3840x2160 resolution and 60Hz frame rate. I've tried other monitors but always come back to Samsung. I have all Samsung TVs and monitors in my home now. Some for over 10 years and they just work and last. I use them with Macs and Chromebooks. I was worried about shipping damage but the packaging design is awesome. No issues whatsoever and UPS can be tough on packages. Well worth the money.

case is flimsy but screen is gorgeous once you go into the settings to brighten the image. Buttons underneath can be challenging to operate. Also glad it has a MATTE screen, which is one of my requirements.
