5.0 out of 5 starsReview as an international customer
Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2022
I will not review the technical features of this monitor. It has been selected as the "best 4k monitor for office use" in various sites, and it certainly deserves the ranking. The text is sharp, the colors are accurate enough for most of my use case scenarios, it is bright, and the refresh rate is enough for programming and streaming purposes. It is a great monitor for programming online teaching and not-so-professional video editing.

Instead, I will review this as an international customer.

+ The monitor power supply supports the 100-240V range and has a standard IEC-c14 so you can plug it in Eu directly with a c13 connector. No voltage conversion is necessary.
+ Monitor is super light. This helps hugely in shipping, not-so-considerate customs personnel, and also mounting it on a VESA bracket.
+ Kudos to the design of the packaging. I have received the outer "amazon" package with almost no padding. Consequently, the inner (Dell) package was considerably damaged. On top of that, both the outer and inner (Dell) package was opened, and the customs personnel did not bother to close the parcel properly. Still, the monitor survived the trip unscratched, despite being thrown around in an open parcel. This is thanks to how the stand is packed, and the panel is sandwiched between dampening/shock-absorbing structures. Really, I admire that design professionally.

If I have to nitpick, here are the things I don't like that much:
-No back panel cable management cover. Dangling cords. Yikes.
-Not enough printed documentation. It took me some wrong starts to VESA mount the monitor. (in the meantime, I have seen that the stand upper assembly can be disassembled)
-A Mini DP port could've been nice.
-The menu buttons are quite painful to press, and the menu itself is super low resolution.
-USB-C standard looks good on paper, but in reality, there is a huge cable compatibility problem. Don't lose the cable that comes with it.

1.0 out of 5 starsHDMI cable was missing
Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2020
UPDATE: After returning the monitor I was refunded 100 USD less!! This is a big scam from the seller. The item was defective (dead pixel and missing cable). Very disappointed!

The monitor itself is very nice. The color uniformity and monitor night mode are especially nice imho.
I like the style of the monitor, and together with dell sound bar, it is a wonderful office addition.
The height can be adjusted.
I also liked the ports: Display port, hdmi, two usb-c, two usb-a.

However, the hdmi cable was missing in the package.
Another issue is that with USB-C connection, it doesn't work with 60Hz (my laptop and the cable supports 60Hz) but only with 30Hz. So far I didn't find what causing the issue.

The UPS was not careful with the package during the delivery: I happen to be in front of my house when two workers were unloading packages from the car. I saw how they dropped the box with the monitor on the ground. They were about to stack the boxes from the ground onto a small trolley. I approached them to pick the box myself to avoid further "accidents" - the box on the corner was ripped. Inside everything looked ok.

Update: the company offered to ship missing cable but now I noticed a dead/stuck pixel in the middle of the screen. If it is not possible to exchange it for a good one I will be returning the item. I am doing computer design and sit close to the screen. This pixel annoys me all the time since I noticed it.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best screens I've ever used
Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2023

Overall a beautiful monitor for daily use. When I was on the hunt for a monitor, this one in particular was on the top list of a lot of Youtubers, which was mainly the reason why I decided to get this. I always take influencers recommendation with a grain of salt because I never really know when they are getting paid, but I can attest that this monitor is really just amazing. The picture quality especially on 4K videos are beautifully crisp and very color accurate and it comes calibrated straight out of the box. However, if you plan to have this near bright open windows this might not be the best monitor for you since it doesn't get that bright, but anything else would be perfect. I got this for around $650, which is still kind of expensive for a monitor, but I think for the quality it's definitely worth it. I've had this monitor for a couple of years now and I don't think I plan on replacing this anytime soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great alternative for Mac Studio Display
Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2022

I would not use this if you have to do strenuous pre-print photo editing but for day to day business tasks and editing photos for the web this works great!
Cant beat the price for quality.
I'm using it with the Mac Studio so I have several thunderbolt ports available.
The USB-c input on these is sufficient for my needs and looks fantastic (even side by side with my 27" 5K iMac)
The only drawback I could see is that if you only have thunderbolt output available, these monitors do not allow you to daisy chain them from one to the other (or if they do, I couldn't figure out how to do it)
If you need that functionality (fortunately I didn't) you're probably stuck spending the extra money for a thunderbolt monitor.
Nonetheless, these work great with the new Mac Studio and I am very pleased with the cost savings and quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Monitor with a Few Flaws
Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2020
Verified Purchase
This is display has a lot of great things, but a couple flaws keep it from being a perfect monitor, even for the price.

The panel and image reproduction in 30bit sdr mode is amazing. Colors look great out of the box, but it definitely is still going to require calibration if you want to seriously use it for design. It covers +99% of sRGB and +97% of DCI-P3. The display gets plenty bright and can be used for just about any type of work. And that's it, it's a great display and if you plan on using this for creative work or even just want a really good and good looking display, this is great!

So now for the flaws... each of them are small but add up, and maybe one of these might be a deal breaker for you depending on your use.
1. USB-C is not ThunderBolt 3: This is a real stinger for those who were hoping to have a single plug running from their computer to everything else. And the reason why this stings so hard is because to get a 4k@60Hz image to the display, the USB ports on the display can only run at USB 2.0 speeds. This means if you were hoping to plug in things like an Ethernet adapter, you should still run it through another port on your laptop. Additionally, this means you don't have access to any sort of daisy chaining which can be extremely useful for those running multiple monitors. I haven't tested running this monitor's USB-C port through a ThunderBolt Dock so I do not know if that is even a possibility. If you really want this functionality, Dell makes the UP2720, but that will run you about 3x the cost.
2. Color modes are pretty useless for most people: The out of box calibration is not good enough to make use of the color modes. I can't remember why, but the white point for the built in P3-DCI is very green looking. So the best way to get the best colors out of the monitor is to run it in the Color Temp 6500k mode and calibrate from there, you will still have access to the wide color space. (I'll get to HDR later)
3. Low quality bezel/frame: The display is surrounded by some of the softest plastic I've ever seen. maybe this is to make it better for pressing monitors together side by side but it's not a perfect look. The worst part is down by the buttons, a large number of the monitors will have a QC defect (mine included) where the frame feels like it's pulled a bit off from the body of the monitor which makes pressing on of the buttons just a little more irritating than the others. Very small complaint though because it still is a great looking monitor, but those who get really distracted by small defects might get annoyed too quickly.
4. WTF is going on with HDR: All but 1 HDR mode looks like total crap, and in that 1 HDR mode the color space shrivels up to only being inside sRGB. This is all while still running 30bit color. If you are hoping for a great HDR experience, this really isn't the monitor for you. It's serviceable and it's a good monitor for viewing HDR content and playing games in HDR, but I definitely wouldn't recommend doing design work in HDR on this monitor. Which is a let down for people looking for a flawless monitor for mastering on at a great price. The monitor can automatically switch when it detects HDR content, so let it do that, but keep the default in the simple wide color mode.
5. No Freesync: This never was supposed to be a gaming monitor, but this would have been greatly appreciated. The LG equivalent has this feature so I'm a bit shocked it wasn't included. Likely the next model will have it since it's not a costly addition to monitors at this point. This makes this significantly worse for gaming though, especially since it's locked at 60Hz.

And that's it, I ranted on the bad parts but that's because it's overall a really great monitor that I do recommend for a lot of people. I have a separate monitor to use for gaming, but besides that, this is my main display every day.

Notes for Windows Users:
1. If you plug in through the HDMI port you might need to go into your settings and enable full color range (limited color range sometimes is the default for HDMI connections)
2. To get 30bit (10bit per color) color, you need to enable that manually as well, with an NVIDIA GPU this will be in the NVIDIA Control panel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Picture Perfect!!

When purchasing a product, I usually look at the validity of the negative ( least rated ) reviews when making my decision rather than focusing only on the positive. Despite seeing comments regarding screen resolution, poorly built shell, and screen detaching from the plastic shell, I decided to purchase this product anyway. My thought process was that the worst that could happen should I not be satisfied is for me to return the item and purchase another brand. Well I am glad that isn't the case. I purchased 2 of these Monitors and I cannot be more satisfied. I have them running off of a 2018 MacBook Pro 2.9 Ghz 6-core I9 machine. Graphics card is Radeon Pro 560x 4Gb and the picture looks amazing... As far as connection: I have 1 monitor using USB-C into my Dock, and the other using Display Port into my dock. From my dock I am using lightning bolt connection directly into my MacBook(see pic below). I have not had to refresh or unplug the screens, the color is picture perfect, and I would definitely recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rivals iMac 5K
Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2022

I wanted a portrait monitor next to the main display of my 27” iMac. I tried several highly rated monitors before this but they tend to looked dim and washed out next to an iMac. This is the only one I tried that looks as good or better than the built in display. The matte finish gives it a different look which is absolutely perfect for text (looks great for everything else too, but it doesn’t have the “deep” effect of gloss). The iMac display has a physical layer with a noticeable purple tint, while this display seems very neutral. It also seems to have much deeper blacks and more vibrant oranges. I’m very, very happy with it. You’ll need to use DisplayPort to run it at 60hz on an Intel Mac (which is a problem with a recent Mac OS update, not with the display). It’s not for gaming. Don’t buy it for gaming. Why would you buy this for gaming?

5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality color calibrated 4K monitor

Bought to use with MBP 16”. Works great, have it in retina mode and the text is super sharp. Vivid colors, screen strikes a nice balance between glare reduction and not being too matte. Tiny bezel around so would be great for multi monitor setup.

The usb-c cable that came with it would only do 30 hz but the third party one I had bought worked just fine in 60 hz refresh and the power delivery works as well. So many different usb-c cables so make sure you read reviews to find one that will do what you want.

There are many articles on internet discussing pros and cons of different resolution and size combos for external monitors for OS X devices. I’m fine with the fact that in retina mode the interface text is a bit larger but others may not be. This is not something related to this product but rather to the nature of OS X. You can do scaled resolutions but that has tradeoffs.

This works just fine for my mixed office work and photo editing world.

4.0 out of 5 stars Superb!!! Except one thing..
Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2022

I already had the U2718Q and loved it so much for its colors - true whites - excellent sharp image (for those who do a lot of editing of videos, photography, etc.) this image quality is top notch.
I loved so much about the previous model I wanted my second (for side-by-side config) monitor to be the same, but it was hard to find a good price for a U2718Q as they were rare to find/discontinued and only selling for $300 higher online.. rip off.. so I bought the newer generation to the U2718Q, this U2720Q. I can tell you.. Its exactly the same beautiful image, excellent quality.. except one thing is missing that the 2718 had and the 2720 does not: DYNAMIC CONTRAST. It's a ON/OFF setting and basically makes the whites brighter and the black darker but on steroids.. and super helpful to have when you REALLY need to see the finest detail in a photograph, video or image. You can turn it on, or keep it on all the time. I am okay to at least having it on the older monitor, because when I need it I can turn it on, but this newer model does not have Dynamic Contrast. Not sure why. and this is my ONLY complaint. Otherwise this monitor is top notch!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Transitioning to MBP full time, this isn't the way.
Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2022
Verified Purchase
I really wanted to like this computer monitor, It was the most I had spent on a computer monitor ever, but I was able to justify it because I was switching from an iMac to a MBP full time. This was the monitor that everyone said to get for it so I was excited. This was also before the Apple Studio monitor was released, which I have now and is very much the thing I was needing.

I purchased this and set it up and everything was normal, great looking screen, fit well on a already in place mount system. Plugged it in with the USB-C method and I was up and running. It took a couple weeks for me to discover why this monitor was not a good fit for me. First of all I'm not used to adjusting a screen to the preferred settings, I'm used to just plugging it in, and it works. I didn't mind doing it and I think I did find the right settings for it, deffinatly not a reason for a bad review.

It wasn't until I got onto a zoom call that I completely forgot, "I don't have a webcam on this screen!" In addition to that my speakers were set to come out of the MBP while it was closed and the microphone on the computer automatically turns off when its closed for security purposes. So I found myself online looking for "The best webcam" but also verifying if it had a microphone on it. WTF I haven't spent this much time researching computer specs since a Fry's store in 2011.

Anyways I bagged all of that because I heard a rumor of a new Apple monitor coming out, and zoom wasn't a part of my everyday routine. Sure enough, they did come out and I was one of the first orders and I haven't looked back. I still have this monitor at a home office and it works great, but I would never spend $500 for a home monitor.
