They are definitely ripstip nylon, the lightweight kind of which most travel gear is made. Nice solid material, doesn't need to be heavier because it is defintely weather resistant material.
The lining. Ok, here is the trick: DON'T pull on the cardboard label attached to the bags with your bare hands at all. I've had tricky packages like this before; the right thing to do is use small sewing or hair cutting scissors to cut the plastic precisely at the top where it is exposed between the zip liner and the cardboard. Maybe get the best person in your household with fine motor skills to do it for you. I'm usually that person in my family. Once you cut the plastic ties on the outside of the bag, and don't cut the liner at all in the process, then you should find the cardboard will slip away, and you can pull the ties off before you even touch the zipper. Then test the zipper once the liner is clear; you should have a zip liner with full integrity. <3
