Excellent grinder, the size selection works great!

I really love this grinder! I had the previous stainless steel cased Oxo model (maybe they still sell it idk) and it was ok, but there was only 3 grind sizes and none of them were remotely accurate, and it couldn't grind finely at all. That's not a problem at all with this one, I'm happy to report! All the size selections are accurate and it grind beautifully. It isn't as attractive as the stainless model, but looks nice enough to have hanging around without looking tacky. It is a little on the expensive side, but it works so well that I'm happy with the value. Oxo stuff is usually priced a few notches higher than their competitors, but the quality if their items is top notch; plus, they are very good about honoring their near-universal warranty on material/workmanship defects. We'll see how well this thing holds up over time I guess, but right now it seems pretty dang solid.

Great grinder. Poor packaging.

The grinder itself is great. It holds a reasonable amount of peppercorns, is easy to load, and grinds distinctly different sizes of pepper. 5 stars

But the grinder came in an open plastic sleeve with the screw cap loose and most of the peppercorns were scattered around the shipping package. Wasn't going to use those. Wasted food. The grinder did still have the safety seal on the bottom, where the pepper is dispensed, but whoever prepped this for shipment didn't bother to screw the cap shut and put something, anything, like a twist tie around the sleeve.

Buy the grinder, but look for it elsewhere. It probably comes packaged properly in a box at any big box retailer.

So, 3 stars overall.

OXO seems to have a handle on the intelligent design of everyday kitchen tools, and this pepper grinder is no exception. It comes filled (didn't expect that), so you can start using it immediately. It's so easy to set the size of the grind -- no messing with the ratcheted grinder mechanism at all. Just use the lever on the side of the bottle to set the appropriate grind, and that's it. It stores "upside-down" -- handle down, grinding mechanism up -- so no mess on the countertop.

The ONLY issue I had (and it's a minor one) -- refilling involves unscrewing the "inner" seal of the handle end. That's the easy part -- getting it set properly so you can screw it back in takes a little fiddling, but with practice, that should resolve. It's definitely NOT enough to deduct a star -- this is still a 5-star item as far as I'm concerned.

Would recommend without reservation. It's a winner for sure.

I have had an oxo salt grinder for years now - still works like new (the one I'm reviewing here was bought as a Christmas present but it's identical to the one I bought at least 5 years ago). Most salt grinders tend to corrode because salt is does that to things but the ceramic grinders in the oxo don't react to salt and do a great job giving me anything from super fine to very coarse. The price seems a little steep but you'll buy a dozen cheap grinders trying to save $5 when you could get the oxo and never need another grinder (except as a present).

These are really nice solid grinders, they have a good weight, an excellent action, and they look good on the dining table.

We have had the all stainless steel Oxo grinders for years and they have worked flawlessly, and I see no reason why these ones won't be the same.

I already had an OXO peppercorn grinder that is identical to this salt grinder. The pepper grinder has been so easy and comfortable to use and has been in use for over ten years. So when I was looking for a salt grinder, I knew this one would be the best choice. It works exactly as expected. The multiple settings for course/fine make it very versatile.

I won't lie - I have a few OXO products in my kitchen - this is because they simply work and tend to last. I've had the misfortune of going through a number of different pepper grinders, something I use daily in the kitchen. This OXO Pepper Grinder feels like a winner so far. I've used it so much I have already had to refill it. Refilling is easy, just unscrew the cap at the base and refill with your favorite peppercorns. It comes pre-filled with some already so it's good to go out of the box. I really like the coarseness selection which takes the guesswork out of how fine/coarse your ground pepper will come out. The grinding motion is driven by the base and it is pretty easy to use. I know this is just a pepper grinder, but when you've gone through as many as I have, I felt the need to call this one out as being one of the better ones I've used.
