Fabulous lens but....

The lens is fantastic. Combined with my new Z8, my photography has taken a major leap in image quality, particularly sharpness. Now I want to spend even more money and upgrade my FX lenses to Z. Nikon has finally figured out how to make a lens cap that stays on, kudos. My only complaint is that the lens comes with a dinky cloth storage bag instead of the soft cases that their top of the line lenses used to come with. I felt insulted.

Corner distortion and fuzziness

I expected at 14mm, there would be significant barrel distortion esp at the corners even with the lens correction on (on a Z7ii). However, I found the image to be quite fuzzy at the corners when the lens was fully open at f2.8

The large lens hood for mounting a filter is also very clumsy and I much prefer not using it but great care would be needed not to damage the large bulbous front element that comes close to the edge of the lens. Even the two lens hoods offers little protection.

Believe the hype! This S series lens is everything Nikon said it would be. Its lightweight, fast and sharp. It handles glare and tricky lighting situations better than any other lens I've ever owned, aside from my 2 other S series lenses. I'm a professional photographer and put my gear through some pretty grueling activities, and this lens just takes the beating and keeps on going. It's a little pricy, but once you use it, you'll understand why. I recommend this product to anyone that wants a lens that can deliver in any lighting situation and gives results that rival prime lenses. I'm glad I made this purchase.

Razor sharp pictures

My only complaint was the price of the filter for the lens. It requires a very large diameter filter. The lens is about the same size and weight as the 24-70 f2.8. But the razor sharp resolution makes up for the size and weight. All of pictures with the Z7 and this lens are very, very sharp and with minimal distortion. Well constructed and solid feeling. I am looking forward to summer so I can take landscape pictures with this lens.

I won't add to the rave reviews that are coming from all quarters about this lens. The price is a major commitment, but if you're a pro, or a serious hobbyist, you won't be sorry about cleaning out your savings account for this lens. Unbelievable sharpness across to the corners. Minor vignetting in the corners at wide open that can easily be fixed in a post, but it isn't really that noticeable. Light weight. OK. I promised not to add.

I am not a professional but a hobbyist and I went to a lot of debating if I really want to buy this lens because of the stiff price. Eventually, I decided to go for it because I would like to have a real wide angle lens for panoramic and large settings. I was not disappointed with the vivid pictures and awesome clarity of the videos. What I have encountered is sometimes the autofocus hangs up when there are lots of moving subjects.

The lens availability for the Nikon mirrorless cameras continues to expand with excellent glass, even if it is a slow rollout. This 14 - 24mm f2.8 lens is an outstanding addition to the Z lens family and works very well with my Z7 camera. Previously I had rented the F4 version of this lens several times and loved the lens but for landscape shots really wanted the extra range of the 2.8 stop. I was thrilled when this was released and immediately added to my kit of lenses.
