5.0 out of 5 starsExpensive, but at least they are quality.

I own both the Sony / Zeiss FE 35mm 2.8 and FE 55mm 1.8 lenses. Both lenses come with hoods, but both leave a lot to be desired. The 35mm hood is a cute little plastic affair. Effective but kinda flimsy. The hood for the 55 mm is a plastic beast. It’s huge.
When I saw these lens hoods that were designed for the bayonet for both of the lenses, I was immediately interested. They were exactly what I was looking for: compact, and made of metal.
But for $45 each, it was a tough sell initially. But I gave it some thought and decided to splurge on these expensive hoods.
Thankfully…they are brilliant! Their material and finish match the lenses *perfectly*. And they fit snugly and reassuringly. To be honest, if Sony packaged these hoods as OEM, I wouldn’t give it a second thought. And Sony *should* make these hoods standard.
Icing on the cake: the lens caps are actually useful. I say this because standard lens caps are the snap on affair that easily come off. But these. These are pressure fit and have a wide enough lip to really grab into the hood. They are made of the same metal and have a soft inner lining. I never fell in love with lens caps until now.
In conclusion, these hoods are expensive. But I can confirm, they are extremely well made and perfectly engineered for these lenses. Money well spent.
