I live in Florida and was leery of buying boots to garden in this hot and humid region. But I was tired of scrubbing dirt out of my toenails after gardening. Even with socks and garden clogs on, my toes were a filthy mess when I came in. These are cute, comfortable, and with a light sock on the foot, warm but not hot. And they keep my toes much cleaner! If you get really involved, some dirt may fly in the top, but easy to shake out, and the liners come out for washing.
