How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsAmazing book on forming a confident mind
Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2023
Hands down one of the best psychology related books I have read. It has that perfect mix of theory, exercises to learn it, and real examples one could follow to better grasp the concepts and implement it themselves.

I think it applies the best for people trying to excel in sports, but really could apply for anyone trying to form a confident mind that will allow them to excel at whatever it is they are trying to do.

I found the exercises super practical and useful. It is not easy to stick to, but if you make it a priority, it will be worth it.

Also, this book shatters many of the myths you hear around "spotlight ", "must win" moments, and how one could perform the best in the most demanding situations.

2.0 out of 5 starsSome helpful information about confidence

But I could not finish the last few chapters. It is ridiculously padded with training anecdotes about obscure Olympic athletes and others that the author just assumes you will know and be impressed by. You end up skimming them looking for something applicable. Also little relevance to non athletics “imagine picking up the phone, imagine talking on it. Imagine your sales report. Etc” It is some what helpful for confidence sports like golf but otherwise it could have been a pamphlet not the groundbreaking revelations the author imagines it to be.

This book is absolutely amazing. He uses research and science to support his assertions and then gives you steps needed for application. Years ago, I met a CMPC and asked him what are three books that I should read and the order. He recommended I read “The Inner Game of Tennis” first . If someone ever asks me this question, I am recommending read “The Confident Mind First”.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Invaluable resource - should be on every Military leader’s bookshelf

Extremely well-written in a fluid, jargon-free style that provides practical, “battle-tested” guidance to achieving and maintaining confidence in every performance environment. As a Sport and Performance Coach for members of the Military, this book has been my “go-to” for helping individuals overcome the “sewer” cycle of dysfunctional thinking leading to degraded performance, and replace with the “success” cycle of productive thinking and emotional regulation leading to optimal performance - even under very adverse conditions. Highly recommend!

I am a full-time golf coach, and this is by far the best mental game book (golf or otherwise) I have ever read. I have already read it three times, and I highly recommend it. Whether you’re a recreational athlete or a blue-collar athlete, this book will make you better at whatever it is you undertake.

4.0 out of 5 stars military manual for increasing confidence

This is the latest addition to the positive psychology genre, penned by a psychologist with five-star credentials. Replete with real-life examples of his own stellar clients overcoming their inner sabotage, it is basically a new iteration of the concepts of Martin Seligman, laid out with a military precision and emphasis on discipline. But there is nothing particularly new here, except perhaps the author replacing the time-tested concept of visualization with the awkward term “envisioning.” The undeniably useful advice on overcoming negative internal talk was covered at least as well in Chatter by Ethan Cross, which was published almost exactly a year before. Personally, I found the latter offered a better balance of relatable examples and practical but simpler suggestions.

As the author marches along on his narrative, there is a potential limitation to keep in mind. As a staff psychologist at a military academy, who has become a private consultant for professional athletes and other elite performers, his clientele is compromised exclusively of hyper-competitive, highly skilled individuals who are sometimes literally preparing for battle. The assumption that his advice applies just as well to improving performance for the weekend warrior may not necessarily be true. The stream of scripts and multistep procedures to fully optimize performance may actually get in the way of pure enjoyment for some people as much as the negative thoughts they are supposed to defuse. And as with the positive psychology movement in general, by emphasizing complete personal responsibility for thought content, they may engender feelings of guilt or despair in someone who is even mildly clinically depressed. The author makes no claims to have written a self-help guide for depression, but I think potential readers should be warned that this is not the type of battle he is talking about.

I bought the Kindle edition of this book. I had read reviews of this book before it was released and I pre-ordered it. I am about 2/3 thirds of the way through. The majority of examples for using these techniques involve athletes and helping them build confidence, there are other examples as well.
This isn’t a quickie ‘I can do it, I can do anything’ kind of book. The author lays out exercises, many of them written for you to do to help you become more confident in what ever you are looking to build you confidence in. For me it is in music. I am primarily a self taught percussionist. I hope the exercises are complied in a final chapter so I don’t have to go back and find them. If you have done any reading at all about the mind body connection, mental healing, meditation, you will see how this book offers a well layer out plan of developing your thinking to achieve your goals. It requires an in-depth look at your mental attitudes. The book also lays out what to do, how to approach your past ‘failures’ and how to deal with current ‘failures’ in your confidence. Overall a very realistic, useable approach to becoming better at what you do.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book with Lots of Inspiring Anecdotes

I recently read this book, and I was blown away by the depth and practicality of the content. This book is not just a collection of feel-good platitudes, but a comprehensive guide to building absolute confidence and achieving peak performance. The author shares his own personal experiences with many professional athletes, and provides clear, actionable strategies for overcoming self-doubt and developing a confident mindset. I found myself nodding along and taking notes as I read, and I know that I will be referring back to this book for years to come. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve their confidence and performance in any area of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book on high performance in doing anything!

I have read many books on high performance in sports, the arts, business and even your personal life, but this book is by far the best one and thank you Dr. Nate Zinsser for writing it. It is easy to read, easy to understand, and easy to apply. It is built on the very true premise that what we think about most of the time is what our lives truly become, and by focusing on constructive thoughts in our past, present and future, we put ourselves in the best position to really perform when it counts. Mr. Zinsser gives a much better understanding about how to design affective affirmations that actually work in addition to so many important strategies to keep you from being your own worst enemy and thinking less of yourself. Buy this book! Read this book! I am so glad I did!

4.0 out of 5 stars A science-backed recipe for one of life's most important skills

Dr. Zinsser wrote the book I have been waiting for. As someone who struggles with his confidence, I found this incredibly encouraging and practical. As an executive coach, I found it to be the answer to how I help many of my clients. It's basically a step-by-step guide to building a "muscle" that we all need. If you're already confident in the domains that mean the most to you, it's probably not worth your time. However, if you mentor, coach, lead or teach others, get yourself a copy. I really appreciate the research and years of experience that went into this book. I would have given it five stars if it was about 150 pages shorter - the stories were great in the beginning and became tedious. All in all, I will reference this book for years to come.
