The K Fam
5.0 out of 5 starsAn absolute steal for $15!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 11, 2022
I saw a sale for this on an amazon affiliated twitter account. It was listed at 14.99. The shopaholic in me thought, DAMN its normally 50$, that is a bargain! I even already have a fantastic keyboard (the corsair k70 rapidfire I bought 6+ years ago) and I still pulled the trigger on this to use as a backup keyboard and with my laptop I keep in the other room. I was not disappointed. The build quality is very good, rgb is great, keys feel good (not as good as my k70 but maybe i just need to get used to it) and overall is a great keyboard to get into gaming or just general typing. Also has gaming macro keys, media keys, and programmable rgb with software configurability.

My only disappointment with it so far is that it didn't come with a wrist rest. Perhaps that is something I had just gotten used to with my K70. Still, this value is so incredible I would not flinch picking it up for $15. If you see it on sale, go for it.

2.0 out of 5 starsKeyboard layout messes with my head
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on April 19, 2022
I type for a living - and this thing is making me want to tear my hair out.

As others have mentioned, sometimes keys stick and sometimes keys don't register.

My main gripe come from the programmable buttons on the left of the keyboard, which make it difficult for me to line up my hands without looking. While I am sure this arguably comes from my lifetime of keyboard habits, I frequently find my hands drifting left due to these extra keys (mental auto alignment, if you will), and next thing I know I've hit caps lock and typed a bunch of nonsense due to my hands being a key or two off to the left. I've used probably 100+ keyboards in my life, ranging from oversized to compact, and I've never experienced anything like this before.

Additionally, while sometimes keys don't register, and while sometimes keys stick, also sometimes keys are infuriatingly sensitive - resulting in a slew of new tabs, windows, omni-bar activations, and the sort. Just while typing this review, I've opened up 3 new tabs, 2 new windows, activated caps like about 8 times, and have probably averaged 10 WPM, despite being a professional programmer.

This review will be the last thing I type on this - swapping it out now for my old one before I break something.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Want to Love This Keyboard
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 7, 2022

I think this keyboard is great. It feels solid when typing, makes a satisfying sound when keys are pressed, and has really nice lighting effects, compared to my old NPET RGB keyboard. I'm not an overly greasy person. That being said, the plastic material is, surprisingly, not getting smeared with skin grease as I expected, given the type of plastic it is. Not all keyboards fare as well, -- lookin' at you, Dell and Lenovo -- but after a week or so of using it about 6+ hours a day, I can't see any smearing or discoloration.

When I received the keyboard, the box was pretty beat up. The inner boxes looked fine, but at least two keys were 'popped off' and freely floating inside the bag with the keyboard. I was able to pop these back on with prior knowledge of mechanical keyboards. However, as a point-of-fact, my wife has very little IT experience and had no idea how to reseat a popped-off key. I can imagine if this happens to others with the same skill level as my wife, they may need to search online for how to reattach the keys.

Outside of that, I'll echo what others have mentioned here in other reviews. The placement for the macro keys is annoying. If you're a proficient typist, then you've liked developed a technique to cheat and find the home-row by sliding your hand from the edge of the keyboard to the shift/ctrl etc. With this keyboard, you will die, fall off things, and time stuff incorrectly in every single game you play as you frustratingly hit a key that doesn't do what you expect it to. If you attach actual functions to the macro keys, you'll likely end up in worse shape if those macros open or close apps or processes.

I have no idea why the macros had to be placed on that side. Most of us game, which is what this keyboard is marketed to, with a mouse in our right hand and our left hand on the left-most portion of the keyboard. Why EVGA decided to put the macro keys on the side you place your hand over the most, is beyond me. It would have made 100x more sense to put it on the right side, and not just for the reason of accidental pressing. Let me explains:

If you've ever bound any key on your mouse (such as a forward/back button) or used the mouse/keyboard for work tasks, you'll likely have used your mouse-thumb to hit enter or something similar on the keypad. The macro keys would have made a lot more sense on that side, allowing for quick taps of your macro keys with your mouse-hand, ensuring the placement of your left hand was always in the right spot. Just like cupholders in cars, I am pretty sure these designs look good on paper but suck in real-world practicality.

Not wanting to admit defeat, I am going to keep the keyboard and either try to find a way to prevent macro keys existence by removing them, or look for a 3D printable option to prevent accidental use. If I find a way to workaround it, I'll come back here and post an update with my method.

This is a good keyboard. It feels nice, it sounds nice, the colors are fluid, and the construction feels solid. The placement of those macro keys prevents this from being a 5-star, in my book. Oh, and if you use a standard keyboard at another location, prepare to be frustrated for the opposite reason -- getting used to the hand placement with the macros on the left, only to have your hand be off with your other keyboards.

This keyboard actually is really good. I have never bought a gaming keyboard so its new to me. Lets start with the quality. This thing has some weight lol, no kidding never had a heavier keyboard but i do find that because of this it does not scoot around when using it normaly or gaming like my logitech did. The buttons are also not placed the same as your typical keyboard, they are moved closer to gether im assuming since its a gaming keyboard they do that because it takes less time to press a button which would be a good thing for gaming so i cant knock it for what its designed for but if you are like me it will take a small adjustment to get used to. As for the quality of material im going to give it 5 stars despite being plastic and my reason for doing so is because this keyboard feel good. no joke despite the plastic its a very very solid design and still feels premium. The only thing i knocked on this keyboard for is the brightness. Now dont take it wrong this keyboard for me is plenty bright and adds the option in the software to adjust brightness. Why im not giving 5 stars is because i dont think its maximum brightness is quite enough to satisfy everyone. I say this because the letters are transparent and do light up to the color of the lighting but it is very dim in comparison to the parts you can see under the buttons. Like i said its good for me but not everyone and it certainly is good enough to see in the dark. Just my two cents and im sure most people will be more than satisfied with this keyboard especially as a gamer because it has actually made me perform better in my shooter games.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Keyboard... But....

Like the mouse you can program this keyboards extra buttons to open programs.... But...

The place where the special buttons are located are near keys I use often like Ctrl, Shift, Caps and Tab. I'm used to going all the way to the edge to find those keys without looking down. But I found myself pressing the special keys from time to time wondering why I can't copy and paste... It's because I'm holding down the special key and not the Ctrl.

Annoying. But now imagine you program those key to open a program or the browser.... Yeah...

Still it's one of the sturdiest keyboards I've ever used. It also weighs a ton compared to other keyboards I've used in the past. The parts don't feel cheap and the keys have some bounce. Though they can be kind of loud. But I like it.

If you have to beat up someone use this I think it will do Maximum Crit Damage!

4.0 out of 5 stars Best "Budget" Keyboard

Keyboards. A much needed device to use your PC. Now these can range from a few dollars up to hundreds of dollars. EVGA has entered with the z12 a Budget friendly keyboard. I originally assumed I would be buying something lower in quality but I was wrong. It's made of a hard sturdy plastic, with a decent RGB array. Keys are smaller they typical but not by much. The RGB features are really good with the EVGA software, easy to use and simple. Keys are semi loud but won't be picked up by your mic. Definitely would recommend to others.

5.0 out of 5 stars I’m impressed!

I do design work by trade so my keyboards have always been top tier - reliability, comfort, features etc are important when you’re using it for hours and hours every day.

I bought this for my kid’s PC. She loves the colors and that’s all that mattered to her.

I got this on sale for $20. It’s not a mechanical keyboard but it feels 80% like a Logitech Romer G linear feel.

The macro keys along the left side gets in the way a lot if you’re not used to it. But, those keys so work perfectly for what they are for.

For the sale price you can not buy a comparable keyboard new. It feels good to type on, compact and feature packed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Smaller mechanical keyboard worth the money

This keyboard is worth the money. There is a few things I dislike. The custom “E” keys makes the keyboard harder to adjust to. The material feels nice however the key press leaves something to be desired.
There are multiple things I do like about the keyboard. I do like the ease of plug and play compared to other RGB keyboards. The brightness is great and adjustable without additional softwear. Over all this keyboard is an above average entry-level keyboard and if you are on a budget is probably the best bang for your buck you can get.

Solid keyboard for the money. Programmable keys quite useful for gamers but get in the way when trying to used "CTRL+" option as accustomed to CTRL key being the lowest left key and programmable key "E5" is there instead. Plug-and-play, set up automatically and key feel is great. Colors are nice and unobtrusive, easy to change and control. Definitely worth the money.

got it on sale for like 16 dollars and it is really high quality. The keys on it are really clickity clackity and it feels really solid too. If you rage this might be a pretty good keyboard that looks good and you can lay in to. Much like a wife in the 50s.

This keyboard is feels good, not so loud and it has RGB. The shipment came to me in it's original box with a label slapped on it so box abit dang up, but the keyboard works. RGB light seems okay but not as bright as I wanted it to be, still it looks awesome. I got this for working the office and now everyone knows, I work and play hard.

For this price I felt I am stealing it, just get it.
