How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsAwesome small lens.
Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2023
I have been using this lens the past few days and I have to say I love it. It is so small and light weight that it is exactly what I need to take it on my hikes or trips. It has really nice clarity and sharpness to it. Focuses well. Vignetting that some are complaining about at 2.8 is actually nice and I don't mind it at all. Also I am not sure what they exactly did to the technology of this lens but when I edit the colors in Lightroom it handles adjustments way better than photos taken with other lenses that I have. I am using it with my z7 and it is great for filming too. I don't know why anybody wouldn't want to own one of these especially that the price is so good. I highly recommend it.

I purchase the wrong lens, I’m sure it’s good, but the return takes more than 3 or 4 weeks, and still have not got my refund yet

5.0 out of 5 stars A great value

I upgraded to a z8 from a Nikon d800 I got the ftz adapter and discovered some of my older Nikon glass is only operational in manual focus. Most of those lenses are primes so I decided to just get the 40mm f/2 and this 28mm z mount both of which are producing beautiful images and have impeccable autofocus performance. They’re also both very light and low profile which is great for daily roaming or being a little more discreet.

This was a great addition to my Nikon Z5. Good for street and candid shots. There’s some noticeable vignetting with a full frame sensor, but I’m ok with that for the price and compactness. It’s much lighter than Nikon’s premium lenses so I don’t have trouble carrying it all day. Well worth the budget price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should be the first Z-lens you buy
Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2023

This lens was recommended to me on a forum where a user responded to my inquiry about the best Nikon entry-level Z lens that has a lower aperture value (f2.8) that's wide angle -- for face-to-camera videos. Received it today, it's very compact and lightweight. Back in the 80s, before DSLR, my favorite lens for landscape photos was always the F-mount f1.8-28mm. But I wanted to get this new Z-lens since I just bought a new mirrorless full-frame Z6 Nikon. Please note, if you are looking into getting a new mirrorless Nikon, then get the full-frame Z6, and not the full-frame Z5, since the Z6 is better for videos. Don't bother with the Z30 or Z50 (cost less than $1000), since they are not full-frame and result in half the resolution of images (compared with Z5, Z6) if you look at the detail on the pixel level. Z5 is the entry-level full frame that costs near $1000 (Dec 2023), but the Z6 (on sale for $1600 Dec 2023) is much better for vidoegraphy than Z5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little lens
Reviewed in the United States on September 25, 2022

Sharp, fast, very lightweight, and the images are pleasantly sharp. This lens is a bargain. And a secret advantage, at least to me, is that on a full-frame camera, 28mm is an ideal focal length--wide enough to give pictures drama, not so wide that it distorts things. Yes, it lacks a metal mount, but it's compact enough that I don't worry. This is the lens I keep on my camera so that I'm ready when I see something cool.

I was expecting a cheap lense, gladly I'm surprized it doesn't feel cheap at allá and picture quality, sharpness and constrant are amazing both in a Z50 and a Z6

Makes me want to use my Z6ii to do Vlog type videos instead of the gopro. Great for street pictures. Not as wide as a 16mm, but it's pancakes. Easier to fit in my bag.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not much different than the kit lens sharpness wise. Buy if you really need the 2.8
Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2022

I've attached a photo comparing the 24-50mm kit lens with this 28mm lens shooting a far subject. The images are jpgs straight from camera, no post, color is slightly different because sunlight changed on me. At f4.5 the image is slightly sharper than the kit lens, barely noticeable unless you zoom in 200% and pixel peep. So, if you already have the kit lens, I'd save your money unless you need the 2.8 or just want to shoot prime. It's still a great lens, but I will be returning mine because I don't think I really need the 2.8.

I bought it for my z50. This is my first lens and started trying out my hand in photography. First thing I noticed was it is relatively slow in autofocus but I I don’t notice it much after using it for a few weeks. I love the bokeh effect and how crisp the images are. Would definitely recommend it as first lens as it is the cheapest and lot to learn from it.
