The Best Overall Lens! I wish I had this as my first lens!

This lens is an incredible lens on the video side, it’s compatibility with many mirorless cameras from Sony makes it a deal. I have used this lens as a power zoom lens and I believe that this powerzoom is so nice because it lacks moving parts to be broken. Compared to its GM predecessor, it is small,light, and compact with a surprisingly good F4 aperture. This lens is great during the day, and definitely can take on some low light work. The many ways to control the zoom are very valuable from the zoom rocker on the lens to remotes and an actual zoom ring. This lens opens up a wide angle, and 35 being tighter. This lens is incredible, and i highly recommend it as an additional lens or a way to make movies. The powerzoom has so many possibility. This lens has a deserved 5 stars.

This company trying to have it both ways keeps my money and the product

This is a bad buy the lens comes with inferior parts that gives out bad quality
Then the company fails to address it properly claiming it’s not what they send out .
Ofter I returned the item they are still holding on to the lens and my close to 1200 dollars… I’m going to have to sue them for my money … then threatening to suspend me from buying from Amazon

Best Video Lens for Sony Cameras

After much deliberation of whether I will really need or want a second 16-35 (I have the 16-35 GM, and I love it), I jumped the gun and bought this lens in anticipation of a dance video I was about to shoot. Cutting to the chase - after going through the videos and few stills I took with this lens - I can attest that it is a dream of a lens to use with my A7R4 (I know, it's not a video camera, but so what) mounted on a DJI Ronin SC2. It balances so well on the body, super light weight, and extremely nimble and joy to use. The zoom range is extremely handy - 16mm on wide end, to 50mm on the tele end while using in crop mode. Unfortunately, because I primarily used it on a gimbal, I was not able to use the zoom rocker. Also I clearly missed reading the fact that the Ronin SC2 zooming does not work with this lens when coupled with the A7R4 body (may be some newer bodies do). But, if you happen to use it hand held, the zooming is super smooth and very predictable despite being electronically controlled. The focusing is smooth, does not hunt or jump, with my AF setting set as "Normal" in the camera. The best part is internal zooming, so the gimbal stays locked on. One thing to consider while purchasing this lens - is a ND filter. Because with 180 degree shutter rule, for a 30P video and 1/60th shutter speed, even at ISO 100 the exposure is super bright (and I do not want to ruin the background by going to F16). All in all - I am very impressed with this lens and would highly recommend to anyone looking to get an all in one sweet little feature packed masterpiece!

Update 9/1/2022: I finally bought a variable ND filter (K&F Concept 72mm Variable ND2-ND400 ND Lens Filter (1-9 Stops)). But it looks like the lens hood is not compatible with it so I can use either the filter or the hood. Good news is, I am ok with having to choose either one of them based on the need of the hour, and no one is making their trip to Amazon returns center.

I have been using for a month. Lighter than FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM or Vario-Tessar T* FE 16–35mm F4 ZA OSS. I have used the Vario-Tessar T* FE 16–35mm F4 ZA OSS since '15 used for astro Milky Way with pinpoint stars at 25s. An f/4 lens allows for a longer SS without star elongation. Now this lens is super sharp on the A7Rii, details of say people at 16mm when zoomed in at 200% is sharp and clear so cropping is no problem. Yes no OSS but with IBIS it captures great, focus is super fast, will focus on stars! Lr has LC but not needed really great RAW out of camera. Never thought about colors but sunset colors are great. 16mm is the goto for indoor capture vs 12mm and 35mm is a great range for a daily carry for landscaping or close city shot. 35mm is less than a inch and great for a close up like macro that is super sharp and wide open great DOF and milky bokeh.

Probably one of the sharpest lens I’ve ever used. The light weight makes it so easy to carry every where with you and motivated me to use it more often. For a f4 this lens didn’t quite had much limitations for me even in low light condition it still held up really well unless you’re plan on shooting in completely pitch dark scenarios but at that point who really shoot in pitch black. This is by far the best f4 lens on the market but I do wish the price would be a bit lower since it’s not like a 2.8. So 800-900 would definitely Be a no brainer decision.

The lens has very good image quality, quick auto focus and oss, even when I compared it to a 16mm f1.4. The only complaint I have is the ghosting. When lens is pointing towards a strong light, you can see ghosting. Excellent for videos as long as you make preparations for the ghosting. Weight is perfect. Zoom is smooth and responsive. I think Sony can do better with coating the lens.

Great Lens with some compromises

I replaced my Tamron 20-40mm with this super compact and light Sony gem. I use it mostly for landscape, so a slowest f/4.0 is not much an issue for me. The IQ is terrific, on par with if not better than the Tamron. The only issues some people may have (not me) are with the zoom ring which is quite narrow and close to the focus ring, the lack of zoom marking and the PZ button. The a7M4 shows the zoom value in the viewfinder when changed but it does not stay on - SONY! that should be fixed through a software update. The AF is super fast, silent and without any flickering like with the Tamron in AF-S mode. I am definitely planning to learn videography with this little guy soon.
