It works great in most applications, but the software I wanted to use it in doesn't work at all. This is not a fault of the card reader. The author of the software said it's not compatible and they won't make it compatible. If you have a need for this device call the company that made your software and ask before you buy it so you won't be disappointed like me. To reiterate, it's not the cardreader's fault if your software won't use it.

Driver DOES NOT Work At All For CAC/PIV v.8 Versions

This card reader will not work for v.8 versions or later of the CAC or PIV issuing. It probably was designed for the tri v.7 or prior due to the error recieved from credentialing when trying to plug a card in. I thought this was a driver issue, so I went into the manufacturer's website under Drivers and Manuals, and there were no available drivers for this device. I will revise this review when a driver shows up, because the current firmware does not work with the current form of Windows certutil.

This was plug and play for me with Windows 10 and read both of my common access cards as well as a few other smart cards I like to dabble with. The instruction "pamphlet" is not really in english, there are some english words on it but overall it is in two other languages. There is a website they reference that turns out to be a government website. The images on the pamphlet are outdated vs the stie (which is also in Spanish) but you can see the downloads on the left side. Again, this was plug and play for me in Windows 10 but I was curious if they had any other utility software.

English Operating Instructions Not Great, Easy to Use

This smart card reader is easy to use with Windows 10. That's a good thing because the fold-out operating instructions are presented in several languages. The two pages written in English do not really tell you how to use the reader. They talk about system requirements and features of the product.

I haven't had this reader long enough to comment on durability. It has a little kick-stand on the back that makes it easier to insert smart cards. It comes with a long connecting cable, about 36-inches long. The reader is very lightweight. It's made of plastic. Not sure what that will mean for durability/ruggedness over time. Note that this card reader is only for smart cards. SD cards cannot be inserted or read.

Got this for a small retail operation that needed another way to charge credit and debit cards. It took some doing but finally got it working with our software on my Mac and was able to read a debit card. Works so far, hope it lasts a while.

It read an old credit card right off the bat; and, seems to work with a couple other types of cards we have. I can't speak for its longevity; but, with no moving parts, that shouldn't be an issue.
