Love this thing

Is it pricy? Yes. Was it worth it? Also yes. I love this thing. It allows me to take my design files with me without having multiple chunky drives. Now I can just buy another tiny blade drive when I need more storage and they take up practically no space in my bag. It’s also extremely fast and reliable.

After having the drive for about 3 months it now has completely failed and will not show up on any computer I’ve tried. Do not recommend this product if you plan on using it for professional work use. This has cost my business time and money due to the fact the drive is now just a useless piece of metal and plastic, not allowing me to access files that had not finished backing up yet. I’ve done Google and Reddit deep dives trying to find a solution and nothing works! Terrible product and complete waste of time and money. Go get a Samsung T7 shield if you want a reliable drive. Not this bs.

Needed Extra Storage and Fast Transfer Time

It exceeded my expectations. I use a MacBook Pro 13 with 4TB HD and wanted a good place to backup the drive - I also use additional plug-in storage sticks for other types of data that I don't want on my laptop (it's my work laptop). I can plug and play each memory stick (I bought 3) and transfer data quickly. For my work, I don't need the 4-bay module that gives access to all drives simultaneously. However, if the time comes that I do, I'm glad they have a product already made for that. I'm so glad I made this purchase!

I love that I can have multiple blades / drives accessible in one spot. It cuts dow. On the clutter of having different loose drives laying around. The transfer speed are decent.

The only thing I don’t like is that the cables don’t stay attached to the back of the drive, causing disconnects if you lightly bump the station or move it to remove the blades. I found a solution to keep the cables secure by buying c type adapters / extenders that fit better in the chassis.

Interesting design, compact, but will it be available in a few years?

The blade/stick solution is certainly a clever design. After so many formats now gone, the main question is the life span and consequently availability of this format in the next several years. The desk multi-blade boxes are currently too expensive where this system may not gain enough popularity to be still offered i.e. 5 years from now. The stick/blades commend premium cost which cal also limit its market life cycle. Cost reduction and 8TB, 12TB introductions could help.

Update 09/26. The 4TB mag I just received via Amazon was unsealed and appeared to be previously used. Not sure wether or not to return it..

I bought two mags with the transport. It came APFS formatted which won’t work with cameras. So, I formatted them on my camera to ExFAT, but realized that it was displaying only 2.2TB despite that I’ve bought 4TB version. Even if I plug into a computer and tried to repartition, there was no luck, thus returned them all. If you’re professional, it won’t give you the speed unless you have the station. After all, I thought what is the point.

As someone who does high-level video and photography, this Pro Blade Mag is what I have been needing. It's small, powerful, and fast. The biggest reason I invested in the Pro Blade mag was how you can use the full ecosystem. The ability to use the mag with the other accessories that are made to work with it means you can scale this system up and really future-proof many of your work projects.

First impression: very solidly built. The positive "click" of inserting a blade results in a solid connection. The station is heavy enough not to be pushed on my desk when inserting a single blade. Unfortunately, it's too tall to fit under the bezel of my iMac, so it has to sit off to the side. No big deal.

The station gets noticeably warm to the touch and the fan will come on even when there's no activity. I suspect it draws significant power (unverified) even if none of the slots are occupied.

There appears not to be any change in LED color based on whether a blade in a slot is being used. More importantly, there's no obvious way to tell when a blade can be safely ejected. The LED is simply solid white most of the time for an inserted blad regardless of whether the it's mounted by the OS or not. It'd be great if the LED changed color to show mount status (i.e., whether it can be safely removed).

The LED will flash briefly for activity and that's a clue to the blade being mounted, but not as obvious as you'd want. My solution is to tape a label on the outward facing end of the blade which matches the filesystem name shown in Finder. That makes it easier to see which blades are in use and avoid yanking the wrong one out of the station by accident.
