Reading this selection was a must, especially being a parent of a teenager and working with the young adult demographic. At such a foundational point in their lives, learning the growth mindset concepts are so essential to their everyday future success. Skills, such as resilience, meaningful connections, reframing negative self-talk, etc., are methods these young people can take into their college years and beyond. Sheppard breaks down all these methods into easy to follow strategies and examples that truly enforce its true purpose.
Two of my favorite parts of Sheppard’s methods are the reframing negative self-talk and the 31-day Growth Mindset Challenge. In reframing negative self-talk, the focus is on introducing a positive outlook on daily occurrences even through challenges and difficulties as well as journaling your experiences to help your mind and thoughts transition. In the Challenge, the concepts are broken down into easy-to-follow and minimal timed activities everyone in the family can participate in to help adapt the skills together. Especially with growing, influential teenagers, parents/caregivers' mindset is key for their teenagers to grasp these concepts when they see them in action. Amazing read and highly recommended to all teenagers, parents/caregivers, educators, small groups and therapeutic settings.

This book is so much of what I am learning, and I am so happy to have it in a form for my teens to read and understand for themselves. It's written to the teen, in a clear concise, direct way, which is what my teens like. I love the key take-aways to help review what was covered, and incorporating journaling and the challenge items are actually do-able, and I love that it is designed to do as a family, but able to be done alone!

A well written book to shape a young mind to excel in life. It is not simply a training course but much more.

My daughter read something similar in middle school as part of her ELA project. This book opened me to many new aspects of looking at things. A growth mindset helps to encourage a brighter outlook and see the positive in an adverse situation. I liked how this attitude allows to identify our limits. The book is filled with practical approach. I appreciate that reality check as all theory and no real examples makes no sense to me.

I would recommend this to parents to read and share it with their teenage kids.
