How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

While it functions decently the joints have trouble holding up the weight of an average sized mic. And tightening them is not comfortable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely high quality and heavy duty.

This boom arm is extremely high quality and heavy duty. It takes some stregnth/leverage to get it adjusted to your desired position and doesn't move or budge unless deliberately moved. Just be sure to tighten the adjustable knobs quite a bit as the spring loaded energy in the arm is very high and you could see it slowly lose position. The swivel is fluid and allows me to bring my microphone close to my face when needed and put away when not it use without making noise or causing interference. The cable channel is nice and the the clamp is very sturdy. I've already recommended it to multiple of my buddies who make music/stream. One thing I did feel silly about is the pictures all show an XLR cable so I foolishly assumed it was included, nothing another $8 can't fix.

1.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced garbage.

First of all, the arm comes in a 4.5 foot long box that's a bit unwieldy to move, and then when you slide the thing out it's incredibly difficult to actually set up. I actually thought it was too weak to hold the mic up (The Shure SM7B that I bought with it) until I realized I had it backwards and all the joints are massively spring-loaded in the opposite direction.

The screws on each joint that are supposed to adjust the resistance or something only turn if you have the joint in a certain position, and half the time it seemed like they were going to break from the force I had to put on them to bend them into shape. Not to mention how I tore up my hands trying to turn them.

When I finally got the arm in a good position, I tried putting the aux cable into the cable management channel and found out it was too thick. I've got a pretty standard size aux cable so I guess they want you to use some ultra thin cable, probably one they sell for a huge markup.

All in all you can get a way better quality boom arm for less than $30 on this site, and I definitely recommend that over this overpriced, overengineered piece of garbage. Seriously, there are much better options out there.

1.0 out of 5 stars The product arrived malfunctioning.
Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2023

The joint near the base of the boom arm, where is connects with the mount, came broken. I cannot tell if the screw was put in incorrectly, or the plastic just broke. When I attempted to move it to the correct position I heard a snap and a metal piece fell from the opening in the pictures. I began to try to tighten it so it would stay in position, but it became absurdly difficult to turn the knob to tighten. Then I heard a pop and the plastic covering on the opposite side had popped off. Something happened either way that causes that joint to be forcefully turned the opposite direction. It essentially prevents you from pulling the microphone toward you. I think you could technically had used it in reverse, but that's not the intended use of the design.

I'm not sure if this is a manufacturerer defect and Shure/Gator should be looking into quality control, or it was damaged in transit. Can't believe it's in this shape.

The clamps to adjust the movement of the stand are unhelpful. It didn’t matter how tight I fastened the bottom screw would always fall.
It took ages to deliver and the product was a waist. Don’t recommend

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect Mic Stand, Joints Not Fully TIghtenable

Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
Up until I received this product I had been using a basic, traditional 'boom arm' for my microphone. My existing arm didn't have enough height to be used over the top of my monitors, so I had to place it on the front side of the desk. When I unboxed this boom arm, the first thing I did was compare it height-wise to my monitors, and it was just tall enough that I could use it over the top of them. That would save me a lot of clutter on the desk, and help me get the mic exactly where I want it.

Installation was very simple and very much like most desk-mounted boom arms. You clamp the base on first with a nice 'wing-nut' style handle that is easy to turn in tight spots. You then pop the boom arm itself into the base, and voila! Now with the boom arm going over my monitors, it relies on it having a real tight arrangement. The base pole section has to be exactly straight up for the next section to be able to bend down without hitting the top of the monitors. It uses a series of knobs on each joint that allow you to set the 'stiffness' of the joints, this way you can have it still be moveable without it falling on your head.

In practice, the joint adjustment system works pretty well, but it requires some fine tuning. You have to consider each joint related to the others when making adjustments. For example, If you tighten the mic joint up, then when you go to pull it forward it is going to flex the very base joint of the arm and make it lean. If you loosen the mic joint, then you can pull it forward and the base pole will stay perfectly straight. While it is a good system, and definitely tunable, but I wish there was an option to just lock the joints. You can tighten it all the way, but they will still move with anything more than light force applied.

I am very happy with this boom arm. It is a significant upgrade from the older-style, traditional boom arm that I had. The configurable nature of this arm might make it the perfect solution if you've got a busy arrangement on your desk and need to 'thread the needle', but it will take some tuning over time to get it perfect. I would highly recommend it to anyone who takes their desktop microphone game seriously.

Top quality by a top brand. This is very heavy-duty and well-constructed. It helps keep your cables neat and out of the way. It's very well-balanced for desktop use. It clamps down easily and securely to your work surface. The 360 swivel is smooth and seamless with no noise interference. All of the joints can be moved and tightened to customize the height, etc. I've been using this in my studio and I couldn't be happier with it. I have literally had zero issues with it, it's the best boom I've ever had. I would definitely pay this if I ever needed another one, in my opinion, it's worth every penny.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great boom arm

Aesthetically I think the Shure by gator is a great looking boom arm. Build quality is high, its a very similar/rebranded gator 4000 boom arm with the height enhancer included. For the price, I think this is a great boom arm. It works well with my SM7B, which is a fairly heavy mic and typically cheaper boom arms will struggle to hold it up, the Shure by Gator had no problems keeping its shape and height.

I am swapping over from the Rode PSA1+, a scissor style boom arm. The Shure arm has the benefit of being thinner and taking up less room, the clamp adds substantial height making it taller than the Rode arm which is nice for positioning. The cable management system is better than the Rode and does a great job keeping them hidden and the whole arm looking very slick.

Compared to the Rode PSA1+, the arm movement is no where near as smooth, but I think that will always be the case when compared to scissor style arms. It's a little rigid, but once you move it into place its not really an issue since it holds it position easily. The branding on the Shure is a bit less prominent than the Rode which can be a preference for some people.

I think overall I'm very happy with the shure boom arm. I believe if I had to choose one, I'd still prefer the Rode PSA1+, but it's almost $50 more, so for the price range I think the Shure by Gator arm is one of the best you can get.
