How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsStorage Revolutionized

The SSD had completely revolutionized data storage and Crucial has executed the concept to perfection.

This small, light, portable drive connects quickly and offers excellent transfer speed.

No longer do you need to rely on large, clunky hard drives which are hard to transport and require a plug in electrical connection.

You are good to go with your large data storage needs fully realized in a durable, light, pocket sized device.

It has completely streamlined and simplified my workflow.

3.0 out of 5 starsIt’s getting better…
Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2023
I’m using a MacBook Pro 16 inch M1 Pro Laptop. First off forget running benchmarks, they mean nothing. Real world this drive is not faster than the Crucial X8 in transfers files from the laptop. It’s writing at about 300mb/s which less than 1/3rd of its advertised speed. Its actually a few seconds slower than the X8 it replaces. Very disappointed. Yes it’s smaller but size isn’t really a issue. Constant writes is the issue and this drive can’t perform. Just like the X8 read speeds are good. Also the drive isn’t supported by Crucial’s own software at launch, it won’t even recognize it. The X8 is recognized just fine. At the time of this review the x9 is $15 more than the X8 and it’s not worth it. Save the $15 and get a longer cable as the cable that comes with this drive is a joke. It’s so short that it’s unusable. If you’re hoping to upgrade from a X8 to a X9, there is no upgrade. Performance is identical in real world. Don’t look at the black magic speed test and think you’re getting this kind of speed because you’re not. I’m hoping future software support and firmware updates make this drive a little better as of now 2 stars is my maximum rating.
Update: 9/11/23
Finally we have software support for the drive, so it’s windows only. Basically if you own a Mac you’ll never be able to update the firmware, as crucial doesn’t care about mac users. I updated the firmware using a windows 11 laptop. The new firmware update boosted synthetic benchmarks. 950mb/s read and write, before it was in the 850 range. I gave the drive a extra star in my update because it’s been rock solid and doesn’t overheat. When it comes to read speeds I see zero lag in my photo catalog. I purchased a OWC thunderbolt cable which is excellent and long enough. I will report back when I do more massive writes to see if the performance was impacted by the new firmware in the real world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compact, portable, loseable, lol
Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2023
Capacity: 4TBStyle: X9 Pro SSDVerified Purchase
This thing is so compact it can probably fit into a card slot in my wallet, yet it holds 4tb of data in solid state with near instant access!

The read and write speed says "up to" 1000+ mb, but after transferring roughly 3tb of data from my MSI gaming rig to this drive, I never achieved greater than ~600mb transfer speeds using my USB 3.2 type-C port and the cable that comes in the package with the drive.

Speaking of cables, the cable that comes with the drive is only a few inches long, although it did manage to transfer data to this drive faster than my 6ft high speed data cable I use for charging my phone and tablet did. It would be nice to receive at least a couple of feet of data cable with this drive, however, given it's compact size, such a lengthy cable might increase the risk of misplacing this little thing.

So far, I have not experienced any data corruption or loss, despite pausing a transfer and swapping out data cables before resuming, despite testing for shock damage during load/transfer, and despite having dropped the drive 3 times back-to-back from exactly 6ft 2in above the hardwood floor when not in use. The price is pretty competitive for the 4tb model that I got, and given the apparent durability, reliability and portability of this drive, I'd say it was worth every penny.

I can actually see myself walking around with a pocket full of these things, one day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tiny and Fast SDD
Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2024

I bought this to replace a couple of SanDisk SDDs that evidently have been failing a lot. I read several reviews on line about the Crucial drives and bought the 2TB version. The first thing you notice is this is tiny. See my picture. The Amazon pic makes it look larger than it is. It's not much bigger than a matchbook. It's well made, sturdy feeling, and has a metal top with rubberized bottom. It also has a lanyard hole in one corner. The cable is a USB C at both ends. That same cable, to support the high data rates, is pretty thick and stiff. But it's short so not an issue for me. My guess is you could use a quality Anker high throughput cable and get more flexibility. Minor issue. Data rate seems to be very good. Slightly slower in download than upload, but might be my imagination. I don't have a reliable way to measure speed, but one of my benchmarks is backing up very large raw photo files. It is indeed speedy. Great product if a bit pricey - but any good high capacity SDD is. I'm using it on a MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with zero compatibility issues.

I am completely satisfied with this portable SSD hard drive unit. In recent years, I have been using a Samsung brand unit, the T1 model, and it has worked very well, but I have noticed that the Crucial one is smaller, more compact, and faster! Totally recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars smart glitches
Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2023

2TB version review - no temperature, health, or other common SMART info available in HD Sentinel 6.1 Pro (GPT or MBR). In Crystal Disk Info 8.12, no smart data is available if GPT is used, but disk health and temp data shows up if MBR is used.

Disk comes formatted in xFAT, but reformatted to NTFS with no issues. Decent data transfer (400+ MBps data transfer rate in Crystal Disk Mark 8.01, USB-C 3.1 port, T470 Lenovo, win 10 pro / I7 / 16GB ram).

No adapter included from USB C to USB A (as expected per description), and the included USB C to USB C cable is very thick and rigid. Included cable is almost as big as half the drive.

Very nice form factor, and decent data transfer speed, but with SMART compatibility issues I have to knock off one star.

Micron CT2000X9PROSSD9 per DiskGenius, Win 10 is seeing this as a SCSI device.

Latest Beta of HD Sentinel (6.10.5d) added support for this SSD. None of the NVMe features are supported (one less "*" rating) but general health and temp are now showing up correctly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great 4TB USB-C SSD
Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2024
Capacity: 4TBStyle: X9 Pro SSDVerified Purchase
I bought the 4TB X9 Pro for use in backups for my Surface Pro 9. It was fine as it came, although Crucial's claim of a utility to allow use of the hardware encryption has never materialized (wish it would, I don't use Bitlocker, so am stuck with software encryption vaults on the drive, which must be affecting performance). It comes with a short USB-C cable and worked fine, but I am anti-cable wherever possible so I picked up a short usb-c male to usb-c male adapter and voila!, I have the SSD as a "usb stick" config...much easier than dealing with the cable. Highly recommended. Good value, solid performance on large, large writes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great for Mac Mini timemachine and also editing videos on iPad iMovie app

this drive Works terrific I love it I've been using it for a month or two initially for backups on my Mac Mini and it works very well for that but there's plenty of space and so I used it on vacation to work with some videos that I've taken off of my iPhone and iPad and the cool thing that I learned while doing all of that is that you can pretty easily transfer files onto this drive or even work with files while it's on this drive from a newer iPad I think I've got an iPad 11 in case that matters so I was actually working with videos where I needed to do some quick kind of holiday editing type stuff in iMovie and the files were on this drive and I was able to pull them into my iPad and it just showed up like another iPad ‘Files’ Drive.

I will say that it didn't play those files from the drive easily but I could edit work with those files from the drive when it came to trying to play a file from it things got a little weird and I'm not totally sure if that's because I recorded something on one device and put it on the drive and then it was trying to edit it on the iPad or what but it definitely was able to work with those via iMovie and that was super super handy and helped me not have to break out a laptop

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good value and solid performance and reliability to date
Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2023

This drive is mainly used for file exchange between systems- one TB capacity, and transfer speeds up to 1GB per second. Small and compact, easy for travel, and no apparent issues with thermal throttling with high speed large file transfers- the package design with a metal case (good thermals) is probably a factor in that.
The pricing is very attractive for the quality of construction and performance delivered- that was a factor in selecting this drive. The value proposition is very good, in my opinion. I expect to get more of these to use with dedicated test systems in my home lab.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great on the Legion Go.....
Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2024
Capacity: 4TBStyle: X9 Pro SSDVerified Purchase
It work great on the Legion go. The read and write speed are super fast. I have at least 20 games on this ssd atm. Including some big ones like Cyberpunk, Need for speed unbound, The Witcher 3, and Gta 5, and they all play smooth. No stutters, crashes, or high temps from the ssd...

If your using it on the Legion Go for the first time the ssd will seem like it's crashing every 10 to 15 minutes, but that's not the case. It's not the ssd fault, it's windows 11's power options... A simple fix for this issue is to go to the control panel on windows 11, click power options (must switch "view by" to large icons if you don't see it)..... click change plan settings, then click change advance power settings, then click Hard disk > turn off disk after> and change both, "on battery" and "plugged in" to never> then click apply and you should be all set

5.0 out of 5 stars Great compact Mac compatible drive
Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2024

I got the 4 TB drive to replace a failing seagate drive, fortunately I had backup files to transfer as I was losing files on the seagate drive. This one is very compact, and instantly Mac compatible without the Paragon NTFS software required for seagate drives. It’s also much faster since it’s both USB C and an SSD drive. No moving parts to fail. It’s not cheap, but my library is priceless, so it’s an easy upgrade to justify.
