Wonderful book. The art is truly amazing. Bought a copy as a birthday gift for my brother. He's a huge Primus fan (shout out to all you weirdos)! My only complaint is that the book arrived with multiple, fairly large, barcode stickers ON THE FRONT COVER. Fortunately, I was able to get them off and their sticky residue without damaging the book. Whoever does packaging, maybe don't put hella Amazon slaps on the front cover next time; for the next person. Respect the art and the book ma dude. \m/

A little-known classic

This book replaces a previous copy we owned; I gave away the "original" because we beat the heck out of it. I'm now a senior citizen; when "the kids" were young (two of the three are now grandparents), we read this book a l-o-t -- they all remember it, even though the oldest is now nearly 50. It's great to have this book back in the house again. Illustrations are great, very colorful.

Incredible illustrations. This is where I first got an idea of the grandeur of natural life on earth as a child.

I love the quirky and sorta dark story. It's about living WITH nature to get what we need to survive from nature vs. exploiting nature and nature winning. This book was well ahead of its time.

Amazing Oil on Oak Paintings

My son brought this book home from school to show me, and insisted that I buy him a copy of his own. He was only in kindergarten, and I was surprised that he liked it so much given the sophistication of the artwork. It is a beautiful folktale describing how rainbows got their colors. I noticed one reviewer criticized the newer version as the picture not being as stunning as her original copy of the book and that it looked as though the pictures were painted on wood. The thing is...the original artwork was oil on oak (aka wood), which I believe makes the illustrations even more amazing and add another layer of depth to the illustrations telling the story. To the people who think the goblins are being inappropriate, we had not noticed, so I think you kind of have to be looking for such a thing pretty hard to see it that way. This is definitely one of the most beautiful books on our shelf.

Very sturdy though. When I close it shut fast because I am frightened, I can always hear the pfffooffff of this study book and pages.
