Customers say

Customers find the lid functional and useful for making homemade kefir, cold-brew coffee, and mason jars. However, some have issues with the lid closure. The snap-closed lid doesn't hold itself closed against pressure, and the flip cap often closes by itself when pouring. There are mixed opinions on leak resistance and fit.

Customers like the product's functionality. They say it works well for homemade kefir, cold-brew coffee making kits, and mason jars. It works great as a pouring spout for dry items, just would avoid liquids. Some customers mention it could be better quality.

108 customers mention "Leak resistance"64 positive44 negative

Customers have different views on the leak resistance of the container lid. Some say it doesn't leak and the cap to the spout gets a good seal, while others report that liquids drip from the round spout all over the side of the jar.

60 customers mention "Fit"34 positive26 negative

Customers have different views on the lid's fit. Some find it fits wide mouth jars well and the spout shuts tightly. Others mention issues like the cap arm not staying in place when pouring, difficulty screwing on the jar correctly, and shallow edges that don't help gripping the lid.

"...Wide enough spout so my thicker stocks can still be poured or shaken out...." Read more

"...The screw threads seem to be out of tolerance because its hard to get it started on my genuine Mason jars...." Read more

"...When I had that convienient and RELIABLE lid in my hands all of a sudden I found endless opportunities for mason jars with reCAPs on them!!..." Read more

"...getting this lid until I tried it on the jar and found out about the poor fit. The reviews I read were all praised it as a great product. Oh well...." Read more

40 customers mention "Lid closure"7 positive33 negative

Customers find the lid closure frustrating. The snap-closed lid doesn't stay closed against pressure, and the flip top doesn't stay open. It often closes by itself while pouring, slamming shut mid-pour. The pouring opening doesn't close securely either, and it doesn't seem like it closes tight. The cap has to be help open while pouring or it falls back.

"...The ONE negative is that it does its job of having a tight seal a little too well...." Read more

"...Therefore, the pour cap drops shut while pouring and the entire pour cap falls off the lid quite easily...." Read more

Great with One Flaw

Great with One Flaw
I have the EcoJarz lid, which I loved but found that it would rust where the gasket is, regardless of how much I took care of it. I bought this one because it has less parts won’t rust. The only reason it’s not 5-stars is because the cap doesn’t have a way to stay open. When I tilt the jar to drink, the cap hits me square between the eyes. Also, if you push the cap back too far, it just comes off. I’ve found it easier to take that part off to drink, and pop it back in after. So far it hasn’t leaked, but since I haven’t traveled much with it, I can’t say how well the cap sticks. It is far easier to clean, and there are less parts to clean up. And yes, the gasket does come out, so no need to worry about mold getting between it and the plastic. In case anyone is wondering what’s in in the jar, it’s watermelon juice.

I dont use this as a cap to drink from so i cant vouch for the leaking issues others have mentioned. My only real qualm is that you can bet if the canning company made this it would be 1/3 the cost.

That being said i LOVE this lid! I am on a liquid diet by medical necessity so i make and use alot of different broths and liquid soups. You can imagine how annoying Tupperware is with that so i switched to the much more eco friendly and useful canning jars. The downside to that is that with my arthritis even the plastic caps are difficult for me to get open. Nothing like staring at a fridge full of things you cant eat because you cant free them so this seemed perfect to me.

Works great for me. I can open easily though i do need some help occasionally getting it off an empty jar (usually a gripper pad after letting the jat come to room temp does it). Doesnt leak when i need to shake things to recombine the sediments (like liquid soup or fresh juice). Wide enough spout so my thicker stocks can still be poured or shaken out.

Plan to get more but its cost prohibitive so i get one a month for now until i can find a better price, ale, or item to replace it with

WOW! 100 stars! I ordered on just to replace the cap I lost, but the new one did not come with one. I was jsut able to buy ink to print out a return so I could buy it again and BAM! The reCAP Mason Jars company sent me two caps and replacement gaskets! I am just blown away by their customer service! I now can keep the lid because I have a cap PLUS they were so wonderful, I can keep using my old lid too! By the way, These are the lids I use for salad dressings I make my self, my own drinks and more! There has been no leaking or spilling! I tell everyone about them because there might be knockoffs of this product but there is nothing like the original. I love getting products from innovative inventors in America and it is American made! Their other products are just as quality made and very useful. Thank you so much reCap Mason Jars for just sending me not just one but TWO replacement caps! The first one I lost myself so to have that one fixed?!?!?! WOW!

I use this lid on an 8 cup mason jar that I use to store my cold brew coffee for the week in the refrigerator. I have been using it for about a month now, and it seems to work perfectly. I have not had a problem with it leaking at all (remember that I am pouring a liquid, so I would know if there was), and it pours cleanly, meaning that I don't have to wipe off the sides of the container after I pour.
Just a note- as this is for a large jar that I keep in my refrigerator, I don't have the experience of carrying this around with me for using a mason jar as a water bottle. If you're looking for how well that works, check out another review. But I can tell you that the seal on the sides is liquid-tight.
I wash it in the top rack of my dishwasher every week, no problems with that.
The ONE negative is that it does its job of having a tight seal a little too well. I have noticed that it's almost impossible to get off and is really a two-person effort every week to get the lid off of the cold brew container so that we can clean the jar and re-use it. Maybe this is because I am keeping my coffee in the fridge for a whole week and this creates the seal, but for this reason I'd make sure you have a jar lid gripper thing handy (we just use a rubber glove but it's still hard), or if you have arthritis, make sure you have a mechanism to deal with tight jar lids.

These worked fair, but not an ideal design for the opening or how the flip cap works. I wish there was a spout because liquids drip from the round spout all over the side of the jar. But more importantly, the flip cap does not flip far enough back to stay open when pouring, and pops off if pulled back too far. This is different from the regular size jar, which if you compare the two lids you can see the wide mouth hinge is open on top whereas the regular size jar hinge is closed. I know these seem really minor inconveniences but they coulda done this so much better, it's a great idea.

Also, we've been running this through the dishwasher (top shelf) to see if it held up. These tend to warp ever so slightly, but just enough to make it a little tricky to get the threads to fit, but it still works.

    Revision (added April 26, 2015)
The little open-ended grip clamps that hold the removable flap in place broke. Not sure how or why; even if the cap was was lest say, removed at a slight angle instead of exactly aligned w/ the grips, you'd think it would still work. This top now goes into the trash. If only the designers factored in an additional but ridiculously small amount of plastic in the hinge design this could be a 10 year lifespan product. Instead it is now going into a landfill. The crazy thing is the amount of plastic allocated to the twist-on cap is heavy-duty compared with the one moving part this product has, the flap. Stay away until they resolves these flaws.
