With Black Friday Eve -- aka "Thanksgiving", in some circles -- approaching, I decided to get into the gobbler day spirit. It may not have the sugar-fueled mania of Halloween or the raw consumerist frenzy of Christmas, but I still found plenty of opportunity to get my turkey-themed freak on.

I'm always looking for something -- anything -- to liven up the Thanksgiving dinner experience. If I wanted to sit in a room staring at the family for four hours, I'd stage another intervention for Uncle Pete. Lord knows the last one didn't take.

So I picked up this game to play at the holiday table, after we're stuffed on stuffing. In the description, the makers suggest "a prize be offered to the official winner, such as candy, a plant, or a new Christmas decoration". Those don't sound much like 'prizes' to me -- we'll be playing for cold, hard Thanksgiving cash. That's how my family rolls.

Good thing, too. We played a practice round over the weekend, and I cleaned up. I scored eighty bucks and a gravy boat off of Grandma alone. And I've been practicing in the meantime. Assuming she's got any dough left by the time Thursday rolls around, this is going to be the best Thanksgiving EVER!

Whenever one brings a new game to a family gathering; well, sometimes others are reluctant to play and you don't know how it will work yourself.

I had to cajole everyone to write down their items for which they were grateful. We did lessen the number from five to three each and that was about right for our group of 12 participants from 3 year old to the grandparents.

One of the most reluctant had a good time in the end and said that I had brought the entertainment. The 3 year old delightedly announced that it was hers whenever hers were read: easy-peasy points. Some were completely thrown off track by answers from the college crowd, but we all learned something more about our family. We also spent a little time thinking about what we have to be grateful for --- always a good thing to do.

It was well worth it! One might want to make up paper forms for the consumable ones in the game, though. They will run out.
NRH :)

We play this after our family is thru with dinner and we just
sit around the table and draw a card...sometimes the answers are funny
and it just fun and a lot of laughs...
especially if you have guests over you haven't seen in awhile.

Just a lot of fun...

This is a sweet game for your family or small group. It really helps focus on being grateful and on getting to know each other. Louie, the man that designed it, is a friend and gives a significant portion of the proceeds to non-profit agencies (including the one where I work, in the interest of full disclosure). This game would be a great Thanksgiving tradition for a family, Sunday School class, or other small group.

It was okay - I thought it would come with some facts and trivia about Thanksgiving. It was nice having people share what they are truly thankful for .
