I bought this because my HP DV6700 laptop (15.6 screen) with 4GB of RAM and Windows 7 was having overheating issues and needed warranty work. I chose Asus because I suspect it will have better reliability than HP.
After two months of using this laptop here is the good and the bad.
- Performance is great. I upgraded the hard drive to 80GB solid state but even with the regular hard drive it was very fast. It is very quiet; even when I run VMWare with Server 2008 guest and have ten other applications open. - Keyboard keys are not comfortable. I find that I make many typing mistakes which rarely happened on HP. - Touchpad buttons are too loud and hard to press - I connect to a three year old 42inch Vizio TV through RGB and it works great. However, HDMI output does not show up right. I assume it's the problem with the TV. - Speaker volume is not high enough in comparison to HP.
I will probably look for a different laptop because of the keyboard and touchpad issues. I am impressed with performance of this laptop.
This is a pretty average laptop itself and it really doesn't seem worth the $700 I paid for it. It's not that much different than other laptops that are much cheaper. However I've had nothing but problems with it since the day I received it in the mail. First it would keep crashing when I turned it on. Sometimes it would shut off up to 3 times before it would stay on long enough for me to use. The only good thing is that the ASUS customer service is pretty good. However even after I sent it in to be fixed, it still is giving me problems. Sometimes it freezes and I have to shut it off manually. I would not recommend this product.
