5.0 out of 5 stars Why no individual episodes for this season?, October 2, 2012
This review is from: Dexter: Season 7 (DVD)
I've asked before, but am still wondering why there's no individual episodes purchable yet. It's rather important to me. Anyone?

Thanks for asking, I've been wondering the same thing! Not even on iTunes.

Maybe has to do with agreements with Showtime.

cuz its cheaper for the studios to release by season than it is to release 1 episode at a time.

Not when they can charge $2 an episode...

Showtime must want people to order Showtime instead of being able to buy single episodes as the season goes on. It is pretty dumb since I will have to wait for the DVD and I could lose interest by the time its out.

It's because Showtime, HBO, etc are subscription channels. You would have to get a subscription to the channel in order to get episodes and you can't subscribe through Amazon. I too hated waiting for a whole year just to watch the season again (or towards the beginning of the series when I didn't have Showtime, having to wait for the DVDs to come out to even watch it). What I've done the past few years is hook up my cable box through my DVD burner. I'm able to burn the episodes to DVDs (I just pull up the on-demand versions because it's easier). I have no patience, so this works out great :) Then I buy the actual season when it comes out on DVD.

I so subscribe to Showtime. And last season it worked fine, episode by episode.

That's interesting. I was looking to do that last year too, but they weren't available until the DVDs/Blu-rays were released. I didn't have a Showtime subscription then, but I would think there'd need to be some way to notify Amazon of the subscription. I also tried for True Blood episodes when they were on. Were you able to get episodes without doing anything extra, or is there somewhere to notify them?

T. Turner says:
I didn't have to notify anyone. Which I think is why so many others are asking the same question. Yes, Showtime makes $$ on the seasonal DVDs, but they make just as much if not more off the sale of the individual shows. I just don't get it.

I think they may be more curious as to why they're not for sale in general and not because they were able to for prior seasons. At least that's what I see. Anyway, it is odd. I just know I didn't have the option to buy individual episodes last year while it was airing (or for season 5 either). It's just so weird that I didn't have the option! Maybe you could check with customer service to see why it's not available this year?
