Tosh.0 - Hoodies - Blu-Ray Review,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tosh.0: Hoodies [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Just received this item yesterday morning, so I haven't had time to watch it all in its entirety yet, but from what I've seen, the first 3 episodes and some of the bonuses, it's a must have for any Tosh.0 fan.
I'm sure a lot of people are wondering if it's uncensored, so I'll start with that. From the episodes I've watched so far, the audio IS uncensored, however, the video IS NOT uncensored.
One example includes the Dave Attell/Bree Olson beer pong bit, where Bree was completely naked. She is still covered by a big black box, just as she was when the episode originally aired on Comedy Central. However, one of the bonus clips is the slightly less censored version, that was also put up on the Tosh.0 website when this episode originally aired. This version just has the nudity blurred out, instead of having her entire body covered by a black box. Still censored, just less so, but nothing that wasn't available before if you visited the Tosh.0 website.
Another example is the bit where he's talking about gaining more Twitter followers, and he mentions that all Ashton Kutcher seems to do is "post picture of Demi Moore" and the followers come running, so Daniel decides to put up a naked picture of Demi Moore to increase his followers. This picture is still just as pixelated as it was during the original airing of the episode.
Also, any "inappropriate" words that are shown in text, on screen, are still blurred out, though Daniel saying the words is not bleeped out. So the audio seems completely uncensored, but the video appears to be unchanged from the way the episodes originally aired.
As far as the content, it seems to be the first 10 episodes from Season 1, along with 11 bonus clips. I've only watched 3 of the bonus clips, but from what I saw, they seem to be the extended versions of a few of the clips shown on the show. There is no commentary in these clips, just the clips themselves. One of the bonus clips I watched, as mentioned above, was the slightly less censored version of the Dave Attell/Bree Olson bit.
The menu for the disc (for Blu-Ray), is just a simple menu that is basically a 16:9 version of the case cover.
Then you have a "Play" button, which will play all episodes.
"Episode" pop-up menu to select an individual episode (just labeled 1-10 with a small picture, no names/descriptions).
"Bonus" pop-up menu to go to the bonus content, (just labeled 1-11 with a small picture, again, no names/descriptions).
"Setup" pop-up menu to choose whether you want to use "Dolby TrueHD" or "Dolby Digital Stereo". You can also enable/disable subtitles from this menu.
The video quality (for Blu-ray) isn't amazing, but this is just a comedy clip show, so you don't really need anything that great. The clips obviously vary in quality, some being very old, etc. The bits seem to be better quality than anything else. Such as the Viewer Video of the Week, Web Redemptions, etc. The video quality while Daniel is standing and commenting on videos seemed a bit high on the contrast, but other than that it was fine. Again, a non-issue for the type of show it is.
The audio quality was good. Again, nothing superb, but very acceptable for this kind of show. I expect most people won't care about this, but I just want to cover all the bases.
Not too much else to say. It's Tosh, what's not to love. I was very excited when I saw that they were FINALLY releasing this. I was even more excited when I saw that they decided to not only do a DVD release, but also a Blu-Ray release. Then again, Daniel wouldn't accept any less ;)
I just hope enough people will purchase for them to continue releasing additional seasons.
I will update this review, as needed, after finishing off the rest of the episodes and bonus features, but I hope this has helped enlighten some of you and made your decision to purchase (or not purchase) easier.
