This review is from: Boston Acoustics VS Series VPS210BB Powered Subwoofer (Black/Black) (Electronics)
I am a long standing fan of the subwoofer loudspeaker. Long before they became popular within the realm of 'Home Theater', I owned a sub. I found in the early seventies that the extreme lower limits of recorded music was just about impossible to reproduce in any loudspeaker, unless you had the luxury of a limitless system budget. I, in 1973, was the proud owner of four Corner Klipschorn speakers- These mammoth devices needed no add on subwoofer to reproduce the ridiculously lowest notes of a pipe organ or a bassoon. But, getting back to my point, they were very expensive and not very wife friendly. Of course, to me they were furniture of beauty in addition to being the almost perfect musical instruments they were designed to be. My wife obviously felt otherwise. Well along comes a whole new line of subwoofers, completely separate pieces that can now be hidden from the views of the stink eyes of the wives. The first subwoofer that I owned was a Velodyne with a built in 150 watt amp. They have come a long way since I owned that back in 1982 or so. The Boston Acoustic VPS210 is among the finest that these ears have heard. You can pay a whole lot more for a sub and not get what you receive with this unit. The built in 500 watt amp will be appreciated by even those that cannot listen to recorded music without peeling the paint off the walls. It plays loud and it plays very clean. This will probably be the last sub I will ever own. It is that good!!! You owe it to yourself to give it a listen. And by the way, it looks as good as it sounds. Great sound, great looks; in any business that would be a win/win!
