2.0 out of 5 stars Okay for local news, but not as polished as others, November 24, 2008
This review is from: The Baltimore Sun (Kindle Edition)
Years ago we subscribed to the paper editions of the Baltimore Sun and the Washington Post at separate occasions. When I found out that I could subscribe to the electronic versions of these papers, I jumped at the chance to have these two delivered to my Kindle. I had been reading the Post on my Kindle for about three months, and only subscribed to the Sun within the past week for more local news, but I've already cancelled my subscription to the Sun. Why? I've only been able to compare it to the Kindle edition of the Washington Post, but the overall feel of the material is markedly different between these two periodicals. I know that the Sun has gone through a redesign or two since we last subscribed to the paper version, so I'm not sure if it's an attempt to carry over the style of the paper to this new medium, but it's very odd to see some links for headlines and items as "Typical Capitalized Headlines", while links for other items are in "entirely lowercase text"; it's a bit distracting to see the style flip-flop so often. Content wasn't as structured (national / local / business / etc.), and felt like articles were mixed in together, so the overall flow was a bit weird -- I never really had an idea of which section I was in at the time. Finally, even though it's pointed out how certain syndicated content wouldn't be included, was there really a need to include things like the intro to the sudoku puzzle even when the sudoku puzzle itself was excluded? Overall it felt like the Sun was hastily put together, and hopefully it can be restructured and be made more enjoyable to read in the near future.

As this review is almost five years old, it should be pointed out that there have been some substantive improvements to the Sun's Kindle Edition. Especially when viewing it on 2nd generation devices like the kindle fire, iphone, ipad, etc... I urge everyone to try the 14 day free trial, then cancel if they don't feel its worth the money.
