As we go through life---we're all like handfuls of clay, being shaped and molded by choices of actions and activities, that we choose to engage in. I chose Jazz...
Eric Fromm said "We have one main task in life, to give birth to ourselves" A rebirth of sorts occured when at 55 yrs. old, I decided to take Jazz piano lessons. It allowed me to grow and learn from the adult'. It was great, it wasn't laborious, nor is it now, as I continue to learn and re-up from time to time with different piano teachers. (I call them coaches)
While taking 160 lessons from Arlette, if I didn't feel i had absorbed all I needed to before my next lesson..I just called and pushed Wednsday to Monday...no big deal. This doing for the love of, allowed my spirit to grow in ways unimaginable, a growth from a simple place of doing---no strings attached. I can testify, submerging oneself in Jazz is a joyous ride--I highly recommend it!The great Art Blakey said "Jazz wipes off the dust of everyday life".
Jazz can also eliminate slow moving traffic; a two-hour snails paced drive, on a Los Angeles freeway, Friday 4-6 can disappear; I'm in no hurry as long as I've got Miles, John Coltrane or the likes of Monk on the radio--cause I'm lost in their musical conversation, a conversation that can produce textures of silver and gold.
Jazz is an orginal American art form...born in the USA, enjoyed worldwide. It is nourishment for the soul and holistically speaking---I'm going to step out on a limb here...it can very well extend your life, by reducing stress with its meditative qualities.
I feel extremely fortunate that my long time friend, Emmy Award winner Jef Judin, recognized the unique journey i was on and committed his talents to documenting it in such a tasteful and artistic fashion.
It warms my heart to see the many positive reviews...I sincerly hope you enjoy watching the amateur', as i continue to enjoy living the life of the amateur`...to be continued.
