This movie is poorly acted, poorly written, poorly paced, really, it's just poor. If you're not familiar with the "Freeway Killer" this movie will tell you very little. If you are familiar with the case, as I was, then you may find so many distortions that the story is somewhat unrecognizable. Obviously it wasn't meant to be a documentary. But even if you're looking for entertainment value, this movie doesn't have much. It's not scary or shocking enough to be horror. It lacks the depth of a character study. There isn't much "story" to speak of. Plot lines are picked up and summarily dropped and it's hard to get a handle on the narrative. Is it about the way Bonin turns an "innocent" young man into a killer? That kind of drops out halfway through. Is it about the twisted relationship between Bonin and Butts? Again, only a few glimpses are given but nothing resembling an actual storyline. The involvement of law enforcement is so late in the film that there's no thrill of the chase. It just felt like the movie was trying to hit plot points but failed to actually construct a plot.
