I bought this to try to redeem the time that I sit at my desk each day. My desk is built into a set of cabinets and the desktop is at counter height, not a normal desk height. I think that might be important if you are planning to use under a desk, so that your knees don't hit it when you pedal. For me, this works GREAT to keep my feet moving and get my heart rate going a bit for hours in which I would normally just be stationary. I can't quite push my desk chair in over it, but I can deal with that. Feels about like I'm taking a ride on the bike trail.
Using it the way I do, I think the motion more resembles a good quality exercise bicycle. I can't comment on using it as an elliptical (standing position). I'm guessing I'll get longer use out of it as well, since it is not really bearing my weight the way it would otherwise.
I like the little counter in between the pedals. I don't check it while pedalling, but I do check it and reset it at the beginning of the day. I can also pedal forwards or backwards and it still counts my motions.
This makes a good compromise for those of us who want more exercise while we do our seated work, but aren't ready to do a full-flown treadmill desk. I'm very happy with this setup. Also, if I need to get it out of sight for some reason, I can easily pick it up and store it out of the way since it is not a huge thing, like a treadmill.
