I think this book is the best one I've read yet in the Cal Leandros series. Thurman takes Cal and turns him upside down. He loses his memories not only of his brother Niko (the rock that's held him in place) but even of being an Auphe. Add to that a hatred of all monsters and you have an intriguing situation. You get to see a very different side to Cal's character and begin to understand why his brother really needs him, monster and all. Very well written, interesting twists, and the scenes with the mummy cats are downright inspired. It may not be a stand-alone (you really need to read an earlier book to better appreciate what it means for Cal to lose his memory), but it's a definite keeper.
