Everything's Coming Up Jonathan,
This review is from: Everything Is Illuminated: A Novel (Paperback)
After reading Foer's novel "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close", i thought that it may have been his best piece of literature ever. We get everything from drama to suspense and family secrets to recovering emotions. But when I found out about another novel by Foer, i decided to read it. By the time i finished it to the last page, i found it to be a perfect companion to "EL&IC".
In the novel, we first meet a young man who goes by Alexander "Alex" Perchov who lives with his grandparents and their dog, Sammy Davis Jr.Jr., while speaking in an unusual English tonw. In the second chapter, we meet a man named Trachim B in 1791, whose wagon crashes into a river and a newborn baby survives the crash and while learning more of this later in the novel, we follow the child's story which will determine her future. Back to the story, we finally meet the main character ,who suprisingly is Jonathan Safran Foer. He and Alexander meet at a train station when Jonahtan is visiting Ukraine for a progream called Hertiage Touring, whom Alexander and Grandfather work for. After settleing in, Alexander and Grandfather are intriged of a photograph of a woman Jonathan believes may have saved his grandfather from the invasion of the Nazis and that she may ne in Ukraine. With their help, they find the woman and she gives them the truth, a box marked "In Case" and more shocking confessions.
It is one intriging novel for many pepole. There are three stories that are twisted withing together and perfectly explain the story. "EII" and "EL&IC" are almost the same, for the main character is determined to find answers to their questions, have clues, and go on an unforgettable journey. Many readers should explore this novel, so they can follow a man's journey to find the truth of his grandfather's past.
