5.0 out of 5 stars So far this is a very impressive COMPACT camcorder, July 31, 2013
This review is from: 1080p HD Infrared Night Vision and Full Spectrum Camcorder - Ghost Hunting Camera (Electronics)
Length:: 0:19 Mins

**Video**

Video demonstrates a very quick IR shot in completely dark bathroom with the camcorder's IR light - and then with Streamlight's IR flashlight that I also bought here on Amazon.. This B007RB82D2 is an essential for this camcorder! So worth it...

I bought this camcorder for the same reasons everyone else most likely will - price and capabilities!

This definitely added a huge bonus into our adventures - and it's nice to have the whole event recorded for further analysis, etc etc... very worthwhile!

Awesome factors:

- IR and Full Spectrum imaging/video
- Built in IR light (going to purchase IR FLASHLIGHT as it will be dual-purpose and help here)
- SIZE - this thing's not big AT ALL -- and records some very nice quality video that can make me nauseous at 60FPS
- Has motion activated recording capabilities; good for static camera
- HAS TRAFFIC MODE - have no clue what that's about - but sounded neat.
- Came with remote control.
- Functional touch-screen for settings
- Separate CAMERA and VIDEO modes - a press of the camera or video button will transfer you into that mode, after-which you can hit 'Menu' to access that functionality's menu/configuration.

Questionable factors:

- Battery is a little weak, could be because of the IR light? -- but go ahead and order a couple extra NP-120 batteries as I had and you'll have some extra juice. (I will keep better track of battery run-time for the review update next time)
- No place to jack in an external mic (Wanted to setup a parabolic mic for audio testing)

For 200 dollars you seriously cannot beat this camcorder for every-day usage, and amazing night-time outings!

**Don't forget to set your date and time, otherwise your first ghost hunt will be on January 1st, 2011 :)

The real battery killer is the 60 frames-per-second 720P setting - keep it on 30FPS 1080 and that battery life was incredibly longer.... not even sure how much longer yet, but very very noticeable.

Thanks again for such an AWESOME product!!!!

I've also just ordered Streamlight 88704 Super TAC IR Long Range Infrared Active Illuminator to combine with this camera - I'll try and post some video reviews/demos.

Does the stream light attach to the camcorder or do you have to hold it? Because I'm interested in buying this camcorder for the night vision use, but I wanted to get an attachment so that I can film farther.

Actually this video demonstrates very poor nightvision. Real nightvision cameras like Sony have a infrared (IR) light attached that shines like a spotlight that only the camera can see. Human eyes can not see IR light so we see nothing and it's pitch black, but the camera can see the IR. When you stand in front of the camera or point it towards a mirror the IR light even reflects and can be seen on the camera's LCD screen or viewfinder but we still see nothing.

As you can see in this video there is no reflection off the bathtub's surface, the flashlight is being held by someone, and when the girl is right in front of the camera there is no light shining on her.

According to this video the camera is not nightvision and it does not have IR light attached.

Thanks for this review, it makes it clear that the recorder has no night vision capabilities and little or no IR light on the camera. I hope the camera has a night vision setting you just failed to turn on.

Actually it does. Put a 950nm filter on it and use an IR light source, and you will see.

Forgot to mention The 2015 version does NOT take the NP-120 battery. It uses the BT-S7 battery. As with any camcorder that has a built in light, if you use the light you are draining the battery. No way to turn off the light and stay in IR mode so just get some extra batteries. They are not that expensive! And, as StaticReign has stated, 60fps will also drain the battery. That being said, I keep mine on 1080p I want the full HD.
