I just became aware of Lee and this trilogy about ten days ago. I devoured "The Breach" in a day or so, and it was one of the best SF books I have read in many a year--an inventive and convoluted, reversal filled plot, filed with exciting, violent action at break-neck speed. Volume two--"Ghost City" continued the twisty plot and violent, head-long rush, and I thought it did a pretty good job of sustaining the momentum generated in "Breach."
In this final volume, "Deep Sky," I felt that the payoff, the keys that would unlock all of the secrets, explain the mysteries, and lay out the reasons and motivations for all the puzzling things we saw along the way in the first two books of the trilogy, fell kind of flat, were not that convincing, and left me unsatisfied and somewhat disappointed.
Nonetheless, all that being said, while not immortal literature or perfection, this trilogy is still one of the best and most exciting I've read in recent years.
