This was such a great audiobook! It didn’t blow me away quite as much as the first did, but I still loved it.
I loved all the same things that I loved about the first book. It was a great story. The characters were complex and amazing and I loved them despite how messed up they were. Their newly formed polyamorous relationship was full of angst and jealousy but, eventually, care and love with a lot of moments that made me say *awwwwwwww* (but also still kinda messed up at times). The sex scenes (there were many) were hot if you can accept that they seemed to sometimes blur the line between BDSM and too-far but that the characters themselves were happy with it. Seriously, Tom always liked it, so who am I to judge, I guess?
If you haven’t read the first book yet, just go read my review for that one. It explains everything about these terrible-but-interesting pirates and their relationships a lot more in-depth. It also includes a bunch of trigger warnings.
If you have read the first book and you liked it, I definitely recommend continuing the series! I grew even more attached to the characters this time as I got to see more of their soft sides and them trying to be good. But, you know, not too good :-P And I definitely liked seeing their relationships progress. Jon and Baltsaros, Jon and Tom, Tom and Baltsaros—it was interesting how each had a different dynamic, in addition to the dynamic among all three together, and I loved it. I loved how this book let the reader understand Tom and Baltsaros a little better individually and also let the reader understand the intricacies and depths of all the characters feelings for each other better.
I also just loved Tom again. I felt terrible for him at times. I was so happy for him at other times. And I love that he’s this fight-loving brute most of the time but just the biggest softie when it comes to Baltsaros and especially Jon. He’s so loyal and loving. He even explained why he calls Baltsaros ‘da’, and it was honestly so sweet. Kind of sad when you think about it, but sweet.
And of course the narrator was phenomenal. If you haven’t listened any audiobooks narrated by Michael Ferriauolo yet, do yourself a favor and try one. The emotions, the accents, it’s all so perfect. In fact, if you want to hear an example of how well he does accents, listen to the audio sample for this one and wait long enough to hear the different voices (but be warned it’s kinda NSFW because of cursing).
Overall, another fantastic book about these sexy, messed up, polyamorous pirate boys!
