Vinyl geeks beware: Cruddy LP,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Oddfellows [LP] (Vinyl)
In this age of overpriced vinyl, I was thrilled to see that Amazon's pre-order price was only $12.99. After opening it up and giving it a couple of spins, I see why it was so cheap: it stinks. As soon as I pulled out the sleeve, I noticed the LP was slightly warped. While it does manage to play without any skips or obvious noise, sonically speaking, the album has absolutely no kick to it. No matter how loud you crank it, you're in for a dull, flat, and unengaging listening experience because it has no dynamic range whatsoever. It sounds like a brickwalled waveform scaled down to fit vinyl volume specs: the "loud" parts aren't loud. It's almost on par with the infamous Plain Recordings reissues of the Mr. Bungle albums. Thankfully, it does come with a digital download, which sounds slightly better than this pitiful slab of vinyl (still pretty flat though). Oh well. At least I have some pretty 12" X 12" artwork to look at while I listen to the MP3.
I'm still giving this four stars for the music because I don't want to skew the rating for overall album. *ahem* How about separate reviews for different editions, Amazon?
