5.0 out of 5 stars Much Needed Denomination for Xbox Live Currency, April 18, 2007
This review is from: Xbox 360 LIVE 4000 Points (Video Game)
This is a great denomination to release Microsoft points in. Since most games on Xbox Live Arcade are purchased in 400 point ($5) increments this card give you the ability to download ten 400 point games or five 800 point games or some other combination (you get the idea). $50 is also a much more acceptable amount than the $62.50 for 5000 points. Since this is on a card it makes this possible to give as a gift or buy without using a credit card. This would be a worthwhile purchase for anyone with an Xbox 360 and Xbox Live.

Maybe, but sadly, it cost around 5700 hundred points to buy 24 episodes of a tv show in HD format.
240 points times 24 episodes = 5760 points

I think its 160 for standard, that is = 3840, so almost 50 dollars for a tv show season, that you cannot burn or back up!

At 50 bux for only 4000, you are spending over 70 dollars (20 dollars for 1600) to buy tv shows, and since you have to delete them as your harddrive cannot store them, it is ludicrous.

I was thinking about it more as a gift. The only reason I download movies and TV shows from xbox live is because I'm too dang lazy to get out of the house sometimes. Mostly I spend my points on arcade games because I like them. I would also use this to download extra content like the Shivering Isles expansion for Oblivion or extra stages for Rainbow Six Vegas.

This was truer a year ago (when the above comment was posted), but today the worthwhile games are newer, higher-quality titles (i.e., Rez and Ikaruga instead of more tired ports of Pac-Man and Doom) and weigh in 800 points ($10). Just FYI to anyone interested.

Funny that you should say that the denomination is "much needed" and bring up the point that a 5000-point card would cost the rather awkward amount of $62.50... don't you realize that this is part of a clever marketing ploy to confuse the user and obfuscate the real cost of the XBox Live content? Don't you find it suspicious that the points don't line up with the dollar amount on a 1:1 basis? Wouldn't it be easier for all involved if 100 points was equivalent to $1? Know why it isn't? Because once you break that equivalency, you don't think about the fact that a game costs $5, you think about 400 points. $5 = 400 points. 5 > 4, leads you to not realize that the crappy port of Ms. Pac Man you just bought means you're out $5 - without thinking about it, you feel like you've spent less than $5. Why not just sell a $20 card with 2000 points and make the Arcade games cost multiples of 500? Because 500 is more than 400, and even though they both work out to $5, spending 400 *seems* cheaper than 500 points.
