1.0 out of 5 stars Typical of what happens when a franchise gets too big for itself, November 9, 2011
By
This review is from: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - Playstation 3 (Video Game)
Before all the disgruntled fan-boys accost me, try and hear what I am going to say. This is a recycled version of MW2 and it appears that when the majority of the Infinity Ward studio left the new people had no new ideas to implement, so they took what was already there. This is similar with what happened to the Madden franchise. They got the exclusive rights and now they recycle the same lousy game over and over again every year. There is nothing new or innovative about this game. This "effort" was nothing more than a shallow way to make a buck and insult the consumer's intelligence. The sycophants will eat it up and try to justify their purchase however the objective player will indeed concede that this is not what should be expected after two years and constant hype of what is supposed to be "the most anticipated game of all time...".

***UPDATE (11/18/11)***

After playing this in MP mode and comparing it to prior releases I can honestly say visually this even looks worse than its predecessors. The maps are horrible, flat, congested mazes with no unique features. The colors are drab and there is a real challenge trying to spot players afar because of how dull everything is. Heck even opposing teams look exactly the same with that dull grey color for all players unless you are up close and personal. I'm probably going to trade this in for something else. Having never played any of the Battlefield titles I might give #3 a chance but for all I know it could be just as bad. Save your money and don't buy this game. Put your money towards something else like Uncharted 3 or Arkham City.

Multiplayer is not only frustrating (you constantly get picked off) but boring as well. For those of us who have been playing Doom since it's release long ago, this formula gets stale quickly. At least in Doom, you had the time to get into cover after being shot at a bunch of times. It seems with these new games you can't even take 1 bullet before you die miserably creating the "spawn and you're gone" scenario!

I'm not sure why people buy games at $60 a pop. Blockbuster now offers a month pass for $7.50 approximately and you can have 1 game or 1 movie out at a time. After a month passes, the pass goes up to $14.00 per month which is still a deal if you play games a lot. How often do people really play multiplayer. I've somewhat quit playing Gears of War 3 multiplayer and might trade it back in to Amazon for $30.00. Just not worth it...

COULD NOT AGREE WITH YOU MORE! Most anticipated game in history sucks....Kinda....Honestly, I love the campaign. I think it's the best one yet. It appears they took all their chickens and put them in the campaign basket, and said "whatever" to the multiplayer. That is what I am most disappointed with. let's be honest, the majority of players get this game for multi-player, not the campaign. The maps aren't anything special, and there is NO HARDCORE FREE FOR ALL!!!! What is up with that?! I really hope they get their act together for the next one, or this once great series is going to end abruptly.

They're supposedly hard at work on the next installment but the new systems might be out holiday 2012 so who knows what that will bring?? I wonder how the new COD will run on the Wii-U?

Well said, Activision rides their franchises to early graves, milking as much cash as they can (Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero, CoD) Sad really

Sadly, these games are growing stale. Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception is probably the best game out on consoles right now. I don't understand anyone who says the XBOX 360 has better graphics. The PlayStation 3 rules!! I'd like more games like 007 BoodStone though. IGN rated that game at like 7.5 / 10 and it was way better.

H. A. - agreed. The funny thing is, the CEO will probably blame DJ Hero for the death of COD too.
