Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
What you get: As advertised on the box, you get 20+ accessories. These include a purse, a set of 4 books, a set of 3 books, a crown, a cape, two sets of shoes, a telescope, two hangers, a smaller bracelet-like crown (or kid-sized ring), 5 jewels for the crown/ kids' ring and the hair barrettes, perfume, a purple thing I can't for the life of me figure out what it is (hair dryer maybe), 2 hair barrettes, and a ring.
Box comments: My set came with pink and teal shoes, instead of the yellow shown on the box. The hangers in my set were teal instead of pink. It shows more ponies than are included. The box does warn you about that though. It also shows a tantalyzing picture of how this set should connect rather well to the Pony Princess Wedding Castle playset. You are also warned that this is sold separately and subject to availability in rather fine print. I love the warning that the product is shown in fantasy situation. That's awesome. I guess they didn't want complaints about lack of real sparkles.
Incidentally, I find it amusing that the box portrays the books in a gravity defying moment.
Some assembly required: They ain't kidding about there being 20+ accessories (unless you count the shoe sets as one). The front of the box, rather nicely, warns that there is adult assembly required but no tools are needed. It took me about 15 minutes to put this together, including time to get the packages open. It's well packaged from the manufacturer.
Cost comment: I'm a bit out of the loop with what children's toys cost these days. My guess was that this would be ~$30. I received the item for free from amazon vine in exchange for an honest review, but I looked up the retail price because I couldn't find it on amazon. According to Hasbro.com, this set should cost $36.99. You can get it from Kmart, Lasoo, BigW, Toys R Us, Myer, Toyworld, and Target.
Favorite Features: The treasure chest was pretty cool. It latches shut and you can turn it upside down and shake. The wings move when you press on her head = fun.
Slightly disturbing feature: her head moves in 360 degrees. Maybe I've just watched too many horror movies.
Random comment: Her cape is orange. I think it would be more aesthetically appealing if her cape were that pretty teal color.
Why only 4 stars?: The plastic seems cheaper than the good old days I grew up in. Also, I only got 3 teal shoes = sad day. If I were a 9-yr-old kid who'd been waiting for months for this or a mother who'd just spent $36.99 on this + tax, I'd be a bit ticked. I'm sure hasbro would send you a shoe, but having to deal with customer service is kind of a bummer.
Parent warning: It says it's a choking hazard because there are small parts. There are a LOT of small parts of various shapes and sizes.
Summary: Very cool but rather pricey set for all the My Little Pony lovers in your life.
