5.0 out of 5 stars Here's the big guy who transports the Smokejumpers in Disney's Planes Fire & Rescue movie!, June 19, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Disney Fisher-Price Planes: Fire & Rescue Cabbie Transporter Vehicle (Toy)
I think you'll find Cabbie McHale as sharp looking as we did - WOW! My husband's taking a day off of work on July 18 so we can bring our 6 and 2 year old grandsons to see Disney's "Planes" sequel, and they're SO excited! We understand Cabbie used to be a military transport plane, modeled after a Fairchild C-119 Flying Boxcar, who's now back in action carrying the Smokejumpers (Dynamite, Pinecone, Avalanche, Blackout and Drip) to fight fires at "Piston Peak" (none of the Smokejumpers are included with Cabbie - you have to purchase those separately.)

The back hatch of this oversized 1:55 scale plane drops down, so up to three of the Smokejumpers can "parachute out" and help save the day! Cabbie measures @ 16"L with an 18" wing span, and stands @ 6-3/4"H at the top of his tail. The only negative we see about Cabbie is that he's got stickers... we'll see how they hold up, as compared to the tampograph decals that were etched into the super durable plastic of the R/C Everett plane transporter and Stephenson train transporter we purchased as part of our "Cars" collection.

We started collecting Mattel 1:55 scale diecasts for our older grandson with "Cars 2", and our satisfaction with the quality led us to starting a "Planes" collection for him last Christmas. He really enjoys lining up these sturdy little guys for races, with Grandpa and I in the family room "grandstands" rooting for our favorites, and they're durable enough that his little brother can occasionally snatch one and hurl it through the air with no damage done. We've got another grandson due to arrive around Labor Day, so all of these diecast collections will do triple duty, and we really believe they're tough enough that we'll be able to box them up one day to be shared a generation later with our GREAT grandchildren! Be sure to check out the Cabbie Transporter Gift Pack as well, which includes models of Firefighter Dusty, Maru, and three of the five Smokejumpers! I'm putting some general info for anyone considering collecting more than one or two of these models in the comments section below, in case you're interested.

Mattel's Planes diecast characters line began in 2013; the MSRPs were recently raised from $5.99 to $6.99 for the regular sized models, and from $9.99 to $10.99 for the deluxe models. Since we never found a source with a complete listing of models, we've kept a handwritten one in case you're interested in knowing what's available from prior years. Seven of the 87 models released by the end of 2015 were included only in boxed sets (Hector Vector, Joey Dundee, Dottie, Antonio, Airdevil Jones Dusty, Air Spectacular Chug, and Sparky), and the other 80 models were: Racing Dusty, Skipper, Bravo, El Chupacabra, Leadbottom, Ripslinger, Ishani, Bulldog, Chug, Zed, Echo, Jolly Wrenches Dusty, Rochelle, 86 LJH Special, Ned, Franz Fliegenhosen, French Rochelle, Gunnar Viking, Jan Kowalski, Sun Wing, Tsubasa, Yellowbird, Supercharged Dusty, Maru, Blackout, Mayday, Pinecone, Cad Spinner, Windlifter, Lil' Dipper, Ryker, Blade Ranger, Cabbie, Judge Davis, Arturo, Pontoon Dusty, Drip, Ol' Jammer, Dynamite, Avalanche, Pulaski, Firefighter Dusty, Little King, Van der Bird, Kolya Ivanov, Vecihi, Miguel, Secretary of the Interior, Harvey, Blazin' Blade Ranger, Strut Jetstream Dusty, Firebird, Vasquez, Falco, Pack Rat, Tysonitis, Secord, Racer Dusty, Tractor Buck, Jackson, Delta, Windy Wheelchocks, Ted Yale, Fonzarelli, Jigsaw #29, Kate the Corn Cob Girl, Barbara, Gordon, Bessie C. Flywell, Piston, Jigsaw #36, Roscoe, Colin Cowling, Trudy Trailway, Winnie, Linus Lines, Refurbished Mayday, Roybal, Brody, and Zed Custard.
