4.0 out of 5 stars Great Blu-ray Burner, October 5, 2011

Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: ASUS BW-12B1ST/BLK/G/AS 12X Blu-ray Internal Burner Drive with Disc Encryption - Black - Retail Box (Personal Computers)
I have ripped and burned DVDs and Blu-rays without making a bad one.

When a disc spins-up the sound isn't that loud. My bad Blu-ray burner was a Pioneer and it was much louder.

The only issue I noticed was sometimes ripping a audio cd the drive will make errors when the drive is at it's max speed. Too fix this issue I dropped the speed down to 16x. Firmware version is 1.02 I'm hoping the next firmware update will take care of this error issue.

This is a OEM so no sata cable OKGear 18" Premium SATA III Round Cable 6GB/s. There is a CD with bundled software in the box.

The Microsoft Windows Driver 6.1.7601.17514 6/21/2006 works perfectly with this Blu-ray burner. No ASUS driver available for this burner.

I've been reading that it is slow during DVD burns, have you noticed this?

My old Pioneer BDR-205BKS is the only BR drive I can compare it too. The ASUS is faster on burning DVDs.

The software I'm using is DVDFab.
My OS is Win7 Ult. 64bit with 8gig of dual-channel DDR3 1333 on a ASUS M4A79XTD EVO mobo.

how do you change the speed to rip cd's at a slower rate? I'm using itunes, do I need a different software?

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 25, 2012 11:28:35 PM PDT
Troy says:

I bought Cyberlink's Blu-ray suite awhile ago which included Power2Go6 which would not copy Blu-ray disc at all, protected or not; despite what their ads and packaging "insinuated". So I assume that the software you receieved with the burner did not also; just burned Blu-ray data discs. Is this the case. I am editing all my home movies and burning them to Blu-ray and need to copy those discs for family members, so I am concerned whether Cyberlink has changed their deceptive ads/packaging. Thanks
