A book of lies or more accurately a book that willfully distorts the truth. Max Blumenthal set out to demonize and defame the one Jewish state in the world and he came up with every snippet he could find to weave his sordid version of reality. Israeli society, which is remarkably tolerant and inclusive considering the beastly brutality that surrounds it, is smeared by taking the most extreme quotes from the kind of people that are not taken seriously in the US and are not taken seriously in Israel, and presenting them as the norm. He continues in his well worn path of hatred for Israel and attracts the usual accolades from other Israel and Jew-haters. If truth is beauty and beauty truth, this is one very ugly book.
To understand where Mr. Blumenthal is coming from it's important to know that for him Hamas are the good guys and Israel is the epitome of evil. Facts I didn't see in his book are that Arab-Israelis choose Israeli citizenship when Palestinian citizenship is offered to them, and that Syrians on the Golan Heights are now applying for their Israeli citizenship. They are doing so because Israel is an oasis of stability where people from all over the world live together in relative tranquility. In no way is Israel in a crisis of any kind, contrary to the book's premise. It's the Arab and Muslim countries that are unfortunately in the midst of crises, killings, and civil wars.
Israel is the kind of country where journalists and writers can travel around and write anything they want without fear of reprisal. For his next book Max Blumenthal ought to try the same sort of critique in Iran or Somalia.
