yes, disappointing. i first was excited about buying this book because i respect mykel hawke as a green beret and i wanted to get a survival book authored by a military person, as i am former military (navy rescue swimmer). i have been out of the survival sceen for many years and thought it might be a good idea to get back to re-learning the basics. first i would like to say that i do like the size and construction of this book. it seems really durable and water resistant and the size is perfect for carrying in a pack or just leaving in the truck. now for the cons...there is a description of finding water in a dry riverbed. the picture says water can be found on the inside of the river bend and the description in the paragraph says just the opposite (the outside of the bend), what? this hapens throughout the book, almost as if mykel did not pfoof read it. this happens again in the navigation section where he is explaining the shadow tip method of finding north. the word description is correct and the picture is showing the opposite (or maybe the pic description is for the southern hemisphere? he does not explain). also it would be nice to see and read a description on how to find north by using a watch (which is in every other survival book it seems). it would only take up one more page. the medical section is pretty extensive which is nice, but doesn't give any explanation on how to perform cpr (you think that would be important in a medical section). also, a quick reference or index in the back would be nice. there are many times in the book where there is misspelling and the words are not correctly forming sentences. its as if they didn't have spell check and nobody proofread this book before it was printed. it was frustrating to read. if i wrote this book, then found it at a bookstore and read it...i would be pissed! i sure hope mykel sees this review and updates this book.
