1 day down, 59 to go!,

This review is from: Rocksmith 2014 Edition - Guitar Bundle-Xbox 360 (Video Game)
1 hour down, 59 to go! The Rocksmith Challenge teaches you how to play guitar over a period of 60 days for just one hour a day, playing however you want: songs, chords, riffs, the Guitarcade or the new Session mode.
The new version of Rocksmith is cleaned up and polished nicely from last year's model. There are less intrusions from the narrator, and your next song or lesson is suggested in a more subtle manner, allowing the game to progress more organically than it did before. Plus, you can import all the songs from the first disc for $10 (after dropping $200 on the game, guitar and cable, this DOES feel kinda grabby.... but that's my only complaint). A Sesssion mode has been introduced in the 2014 game, allowing you to jam with a band that you create from scratch. You choose the style of instruments (electronic, classic, acoustic, metal and even synthesizers are represented in the selections), the scale, the tempo and the style of play (relaxed, pushed, blues, etc), and the virtual band will play along with you, changing style with how you play. While this can be a little overwhelming for beginners (I'm still a novice at best, myself), it does seem like a fantastic idea.
Now, on to the guitar. It's an Epiphone Les Paul Junior. Contrary to intuition, Junior does NOT mean that this is a 3/4 size guitar. It's a full size guitar, but smaller and lighter than the standard Les Paul, and only features a Volume and Tone knob. This means that its more accessible, and shouldn't cause too many problems for long play/learning sessions. The included Rocksmith strap is a nice bonus.
All in all, I am in love with this guitar and this game, and I can't wait to be able to play for real!

Nice review, thanks for that. Mine is arriving in the mail today. I'll be starting from square one, so hopefully this does the trick!

Thanks for the review. I've always been a tough buy for the holidays and I've suggested this as a gift for me. I've wanted to learn to play for a while and this seems like a great way to start.
