Excellent, much more than I expected,
This review is from: No Angel (Audio CD)
I often hear a snippet of a song and buy the album (being the music fanatic that I am) - when I heard Dido on the radio one day I knew I wanted to know more about the dulcet voice that had me so enamored.
Buying albums based on one song is usually a bad idea. However, Dido has proven to have a really amazing, excellent album with No Angel. I really loved it the first listen through, and now after a few more I am in love with her music.
How to describe? Well, the first comparable performer I suppose would be Sarah McLachlan - though distinctly unique, I was lulled into a warm smooth groove listening to this album, much like the warm fuzzy funky feeling I get from Sarah's music.
Let's talk about some of the tracks I like in particular:
Thankyou (track 6) is of course an excellent song, plays so well and is a joy to experience. This is the piece that got my attention in the first place, her rich voice is like relaxing in a bath of warm water with a belly full of comfort food.
My Lover's Gone (track 4) is really tremendous, the use of harmony and instrumentation takes me to a place of intimate sadness and beauty.
Honestly OK (track 7) - what a cool song. A stunning vocal score and really absorbing groove.
Best word to describe this album: smooth. Buy it.
