It stinks? You betcha...,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Critic - The Complete Series (DVD)
What is perhaps most amazing is that this product states, right on the front cover, "It Stinks!". And it does, take the marketing folks word for it (how did they ever conceive of doing that even if it were a major tagline used in the series?!).
Regardless, the show itself is laborious to watch. The animation is mediocre, the humor is virtually absent, the plotlines are uninteresting and tiresome and the show repeats begging want of something much-much more, episode after episode.
Seriously, when I first got the series I could hardly make it through the first disc--it was that gnawingly difficult to watch. Several months later I decided to pick it up and blow the dust off, offering it just another chance to see if could rattle my attention. It failed once again.
There is just something about the show that never grabs you. Let's not forget that it is supposed to be funny. It isn't. A friend who stumbled into watching the show remarked that they literally kept forgetting to laugh when the punchlines were delivered--it is hard not to have your mind wander elsewhere while watching the show.
Overall, the series simply didn't make the cut. The quality all around was never delivered though the one thing that is perhaps decent enough was the voice acting. Decent mind you, not fantastic.
Should you buy this against my recommendation and the glowing five star reviews that fill the pages surrounding this one? Yes--if you suffer from insomnia or do not have a funny bone in your body in the first place, this may be an appropriate purchase for you. Otherwise, PLEASE spend your money on something more worthwhile. With so many other good animated series available these days, this is one that is not deserving of your attention.

Did you get this for free? Why would you buy a dvd of a show you have never seen?

Yeah Curtis, I was thinking the same question. The show used to be on television so he must've seen there. No way in the world was did he just see the DVD and go, "Oh well, 41 bucks isn't much for a show I've never seen before - here you go."

I thought the exact same thing when reading this review. The fact that he is literally insulting people who disagree with him and like the show suggests that he probably doesn't even own this DVD set and just enjoys posting negative reviews for the attention. No one would purchase a DVD set of a show they didn't like, and then insult people who also buy it and enjoy it.
There's always SOMEONE who loves being a killjoy, I guess.

It is odd that someone would put so much time and money into buying and then writing a review for a DVD series that they didn't like. I normally read the negative posts against a DVD series as this is where people will note poor quality or missing scenes from an episode, I was suprised to read this type of review. I can't see purchasing an entire series first, then watching it to see if I liked it or not.

Netflix anybody, jeez guy. Rental, rental, something you should go towards in the near future rather than buying DVDs. The fact that you purchased before looking only makes your commetary that much less viable.

For one, he said he GOT this show, he didnt say he BOUGHT it. It couldve been a gift, or came highly recommended. Based on the 5 star reviews of the show, I might purchase it without ever having seen it, I do that ALL the time... then I just resell it when I'm done if I wind up not liking it...

It's one thing to dislike a series, and it's another thing entirely to sweepingly insult everyone who does happen to enjoy it.

Yeah right, The Critic was one of great shows back in the '90's that had great writers and cool ideas of making people laugh at how people criticize pop culture.
