Thank you for your review. I find it fascinating that you discovered the joy of the "Little House" books when you were 70! I first read "Little House in the Big Woods" when I was 7. I spotted the book in our school library, having caught my attention because the heroine's name and mine were the same! It was one of my first substantial chapter books and began a life-long interest in the "Little House" books and the people who lived the pioneer life. Later, I received a set of the books and have read them from time to time throughout my life, especially during difficult times.
It wasn't until I was married and had my own children that I truly appreciated the courage, resourcefulness, and loving stability of "Ma," Caroline Ingalls. I am amazed by all of the pioneer women of the Westward Expansion, but mostly the ones like Ma, who could make a happy, loving home no matter how isolated the location or primitive the circumstances.
Someday I wish to travel to the various sites the Ingalls and Wilders called home. But until then, I will purchase and enjoy this book, based on your short and sweet review.
