I liked this one a little better than the first! I feel like I got to know and understand and connect with Wisteria more. I saw more passion from her, and learning the backstory that kept being alluded to in Book 1 gave me more insight into her. She can also be quite kick-butt, it turns out. We also got to meet Declan this time, and his fiery, short-tempered personality was somewhat opposite Wisteria's, but he was likeable too.
And of course there was Kett. I love me some interesting, vampire-y vampires! He was still his scarily powerful and somewhat aloof self, but he had some actual conversations with Wisteria this time. He's a type of vampire I feel like you don't often see as a love interest. He's so powerful and inhuman and cold, the kind of vampire who's so removed from humanity that he basically thinks of humans as ants, that's how below his notice or care they generally are, but it just makes me even more intrigued. I want to know what he's like when someone gets past that outer shell. Also, all the talk of him having sex with people has me weirdly curious to know what he's like in bed lol.
But I thought Yale was an interesting kind of vampire too. The kind who is cocky and toys with humans for fun and does whatever he wants because he can. He was terrible, but I was kind of intrigued by him too.
This book also had a good plot, and I got more into it than the first book's. The stakes were higher for Wisteria. There was tension and history between Wisteria and Declan as they worked together. There was mystery. There was backstory about Wisteria's past and family. I also liked the acknowledgement that looking the other way or choosing not to believe when you know something bad is being done is not ok. There still wasn't really romance yet, but I like that this is turning out to be a different sort of romance since Kett is a different sort of character.
Overall a great second book in this urban fantasy series!
