From The Bio...
"Robben Ford is one of the premier electric guitarists today, particularly known for his blues playing as well as his ability to be comfortable in a variety of musical contexts. A five-time Grammy nominee, he has played with artists as diverse as Joni Mitchell, Jimmy Witherspoon, Miles Davis, George Harrison, Phil Lesh, Bonnie Raitt, Claus Ogerman, Michael McDonald, Bob Dylan, John Mayall, Greg Allman, John Scofield and many others."
Ford's "All-Star" line-up on this new CD features organist Larry Goldings, drummer Harvey Mason Sr., bassist David Pilch and trombonist Steve Baxter.
The vocals are excellent, sounding a bit like Boz Scaggs on "Oh Virginia" and "Fool's Paradise" oh so smooth, laced with a nasally James Taylor undertow. "The grain of his voice on the lone original, "Oh, Virginia," establishes a seamless connection between Southern soul, New Orleans rhythm & blues, and country music and may be the finest song he's written." I can't believe how much his singing has developed, definitely as polished as his guitar playing.
Yes, he's back with a set of carefully crafted dynamic, new and highly original arrangements. "Bringing It Back Home' is the album I really wanted to make right now," Ford relates. "I wanted to apply my perspective to the music that first moved me, get together with a group of great musicians and play what we were inspired to play at that moment, without any pressure or expectations. The results are really pure, and the most fun I've had making an album in years."
On this series of mainly cover tunes, his modern blues is infused with his love of New Orleans' R&B throughout. Especially on "Everything I Do Gonna To Be Funky" and "Fair Child", great cuts. I especially love the brass and organ accompaniment throughout.
Covers by Ford of artist's material like Allen Toussaint, Bob Dylan, Earl King, Charlie "Little Buddy" Doyle, and Michael McDonald to name a few.
This is Ford putting on offer his considerable skills as a bandleader and song interpreter. His vocal ability is balanced by his instrumental talent. Ford makes it look too easy.
