1.0 out of 5 stars Garbage!, July 25, 2011
This review is from: Nikon COOLPIX L24 14 MP Digital Camera with 3.6x NIKKOR Optical Zoom Lens and 3-Inch LCD (Red) (Camera)
Bought this camera for my daughter. One month later, the battery compartment door retention pins break, rendering the unit useless and there was no way to close the door-not even with tape. I learned of this in July as she was away at school, but it is 'guaranteed' for 1 year! Yay! I followed Nikon's directions to return to them. They advised me that they did not consider this covered as it was possible we may have dropped it or forced the door closed. I calmly explained that wasn't the case AND that we had a friend with the same camera and same problem! ALSO, you can read the reviews of this camera on various sites (or the L-22) to see that it's a common gripe. They would not fix it and wanted $93. After the postage/insurance to ship it to them, I could buy a new camera. But I will not ever buy another Nikon product. I am sticking with Canon as they have covered their product for me in the past OUT of warranty!!! You've been warned.

I noticed that Nikon has the largest amount of remanufactured rifle scopes on the market and now they are offering a free Coolpix L24 camera with a rifle scope purchase. We have a coolpix and like it a lot but we won't be buying anymore Nikon products. Too bad though, nice lenses or optics but no one standing behind their products.
Thanks for your warning.

Same thing happened to my camera... 35 days after purchase - battery door refuses to stay closed. No "return" option on Amazon - not even a link to get help with customer service. We have to duct tape the battery door closed in order to take a picture... Someone needs to offer a better warranty (Nikon) or return period (Amazone) due to this issue.

I really linked my two Canon point and shoots till they both died. I take very good care of my equipment. My two Kodak xd4900 little point and shoots that I bought before my Canons and gave one to wife and one to my son still work fine. One just went to Canada, and the other to Greece.

Grandma bought this Nikon. I will be opening it today or tomorrow and check out it out.

I really wish Kodak still made that simple easy to use DX4900. Why companies have to change a great product is silly. I understand better sensor, for better pictures, but keep the same basic model. Kodak how about a DX4900-2.

If you bought this on Amazon you can simply choose the returns are easy link at the bottom under "let us help you". from there just click the item you want returned and off you go. they will even pay shipping if it is a mfg problem. If you bought it from a 3rd party vendor on Amazon you might have to deal with them directly.

You are correct. However just to clarify for you all. If you purchase anything through Amazon fullfilled products, and Amazon Warehouse deals; you are covered for free returns, and no hassel refunds. This is why if I am purchasing a fairly expensive item; I make it priority to buy, what is sold by Amazon only!!! Look for the eligable, or free super saver shipping script, in the listing. These products will always be sold from Amazon directly. No second party to contact, if you have something to retuurn
