There are so many reviews that talk about the movie - yes it is good. What I want to know is what does the blu-ray movie look like...
The picture quality is amazing - maybe too good in fact. You can see the runes and scripting on the swords - you can see the fabric and the threads - there is so much detail it will make your jaw drop.... However, you can also tell when there are painted backdrops being used, because they don't look real. You can tell when people are wearing contact lenses on their eyes, because they have that look that only contact lenses have... There are many scenes that you can tell there is a mix of CG and real, because the CG has more of a cartoonish quality to it...
That all being said - I love being able to see all the detail, particularly for the scenery that is real, the costumes, the metalwork, the sets - all phenomenally done with incredible attention to detail... And, it is fun to see that not everything looks as "real" as the DVD because the increased detail lets you see things with that much more clarity, so some of the faults are also able to be seen.
If you are fan of the films, and want to see how much work went into the costumes, the cinematography, the metal work, etc -picking up the blu-ray is a definite must. I can't wait until we are getting even higher resolution - I think that directors are going to have to start admitting that all this blue-screen, and green-screen work that is being done is just not up to expectation, and we will see more filmed on location.
